Farmer called...

One of my farmers has a barn off his immediate premises. He stores a couple pieces of machinery and a few round bales in it. The barn has at least 3 groundhogs taking up residence. Last year he asked me to keep an eye on the barn (and those pesky varmints) while hunting over his beans. So about a week ago I paid a visit watching the edges of the bean field plus the barn. Sure enough, a 'hog came out from under the barn wall. Nailed him with my Savage PTA in 6SLR. As I was leaving and passing by the 'hog, I noticed that he was a big one. So I got out my scale. 10.74 pounds. Can you just imagine what he must have weighed just before hibernation!

couple my landowners called three weeks ago.........

I'll wait till the p/dog pups are up & running.....

around 10-12th May.......

remember......public land p/dogs....closed 4/15-6/15

Kelly, nice job.

Still waiting for my new TC 17 FB barrel. Loading up some 222, 6BR tomorrow morn for a trip to range to test the 40 grain in the 222 and some 105 berger in the BR.

No place here to hunt GH, but maybe return for a day to NY in a month?

Thanks for posting

The field that these are from is only 100x150 yards and has a house on the south end and house/barn/outbuildings on the north end. Of course permission was obtained by them as they don't want them either. I shot 20ish from it early last year and thought I had them contained, boy was I wrong! It is a mess so I promised the farmer I would work it. It allows me to shoot the .22 Hornet or .17AH and is right up an embankment from the road, read easy. Bet I pull another 20ish out of it again...

Dang, I feel deprived of hog action. the couple farms I watch only have a few each, and after the last couple reaping seasons, the ones that haven't died are very wary. gotta start sitting farther away I guess.

Got another yesterday afternoon, hairless little boar. 20 yards with the .22 Hornet. Winds at 15 mph had them scarce. Of course after I left the winds calmed down...

Of course the winds calm down after you leave - or you leave the house when its nice and calm only to find the wind howling when you get to the open fields. Yessir, they don't like to be out on windy days.

MrM,

Uh, sorry to publicly ask, but I note that most of these shots are not nearly a "snerting". Are you rusty or just slowing down my good friend? ;):):p:p
let's go with rusty...these are all standing off the bogpod, my excuse and I'm sticking with it... challenge accepted :(

Reddick is in the lead with a solid snert...but rumor has it Fredo is in the game with Redline carnage...

better get to work MrM
