Factory rifle class question

I know there are umpteen different committees, local rules and what not but as a general rule, factory class allows only bedding and a trigger job from what I have seen.

I know a break would be a definite no no but wondering if a barrel that had a break installed but removed for the match and a thread protector installed would be acceptable.

And yeah I know it's a vague question but I'm just trying to get an idea.

Hey fellas, Are there any factory rifle matches around Eastern Montana???

I would love to compete in something like that because I have some factory rifles that really shoot and that particular competition has always intrigued me.

Also looking for some hunter class shoots around Eastern Montana as well.

Thanks for any info :)

Dave was pretty well on the money in his response.

The matches that I attend the rules are usually:
1) Factory (no custom shops)
2) Available off the shelf (no special order)
3) Action may be bedded, may have an aftermarket trigger, and the barrel may be re crowned.
The barrel cannot have been removed and/ or replaced.
4) No muzzle brakes unless they came from the factory that way.
5) 30 caliber and under.

And, OP you are correct in that there are some clubs that have really odd rules over and above these that I have listed. Such as No BR or PPC chambered rifles (even if they did come from the factory that way) :o WD

I don't know if they shoot a factory class at Billings or not.

What type of shooting match are you looking for?
What part of eastern Mt are you located?

I live near the North Dakota border. Billings is about 4 1/2 hrs away. Might be moving back to the Flathead Valley though. I shoot 1K BR occasionally in Missoula, MT which is about 8 hrs away from where I live now. If I move back to the Flathead, it will only be about 2 hrs away which will be much nicer.

I'm just looking for some variation in competition from BR. Looking for something like hunter or factory rifle class. I have a some factory rifles that I think would really do well in a factory class competition. Also have some nice custom hunting rifles that would do very well in a hunter class.

Kinda open to whatever. Just wanting to know what's around to see if I'm interested. Thanks :)

Bismark has a benchrest club and a nice range. I'm not sure what they shoot.

Hal

Thanks Hal. Bismarck is only about 3 hrs from me so that would be a lot closer.

Because a factory class is not a sanctioned event anywhere, each club is left to determine their own limitations on legal guns.

For reference, I shot the 1K factory class in Pella, Ia., when they were still alive, with a Sendero fitted with a Vais brake. Legal then and there.

There is no Benchrest Club in Bismarck unless it started in the last year & 1/2. The Bismarck Rifle and Pistol Assn has a nice range out by Moffit that they shoot HighPower XTC and Long Range prone and Fclass. 2, 3, 6,8,9,and 1000 yards.
Benches on the otherside of the road with Backer boards at 100, 200, and 300yds. plus Sihouttee out to 500 Meters.

I see One of the members started a new this last Summer... Varmint Rifle Comp with Factory and custom class along with a seperate AR class.

Thanks for setting me straight. I saw a pamphlet a few years ago about their gun club and thought they shot benchrest.

Hal

Its a nice range... Just wish summers where longer for the use of it all. We tried to get someone to start the benchrest side of the house but no one wanted to do the work of being the discapline chair and run the matches. So no Benchrest yet.
They also built a 1.2 Million Dollar state of the art Indoor range in town that goes all the way out to 50yards for the Actic North winters.
