Factory hornady brass

Hi guys , I have a few factory hornady brass that has been only fired once .

My question is -will they be ok to reloaded ??

Cheers

One person mentioned that they shouldn't be used again. I just wanted to be certain .

How many reloads would I get out of them even though they been fired once ?? .

Cheers

And that 'one person' said that why and based on what? Just wondering what you are shooting?

Sort by weight within 1 or 2 grains & shoot em !
You can also anneal after 4-5 firings & get some more life out of them.
The only problem I've had is the weight sorting, some batches are good & some are horrible.

If you use moderate pressure loads and manage the resizing with minimum shoulder push back you might get anywhere from 15 to 50 reloads.

Browning Xbolt stainless fluted .243 - fox control .

Hornady brass
49 gr of hodgon superformance
Cci 200s primers
75gr hornady vmax

I also have a new box of lapua brass ☺ but I'm a use the once fired factory brass I've got first (Used in my rifle) . Wouldn't like to waste

.

One reason for reloading is to get 'customized loads' for our specific rifle rather than use the 'generic' off the self factory ammo.

The other is to save a bit of money which we promptly spend on reloading/shooting/equipment! So, yes, I'd reuse each case until I saw issues like thinning or cracking of the brass. Somewhere I recall seeing a chart that spoke to the durability of various brands of brass. I think the criteria was that close to max loads were used. Nearly all brass managed 5-7 reloads before failures started occurring. Annealing extended the life and for some brass that extended the life to over 20-30 reloads (multiple annealing done).

So the life of your brass is going to depend on how hot your loads are and as mentioned by others how much you work the brass by bumping the shoulder and such.

I'm having really good luck with the Hornady 6.5 creedmoor brass in which everybody is talking so badly about. I'm on my 11th loads with them, no annealing, just a moderate but accurate load.
Just my 2 cents.

I bought some once fired Hornady 6.5CM and it's probably the worse brass I've ever worked with, and I own some BB. The pockets are loose, I fired it once and they are probably a couple firings from going in the trash, and the aren't hot loads either. I made my own out of some LC 7.62 and it is a much better brass.

I have a set of 60 Hornady 6.5CM brass I have reloaded for 7-8 rounds now. I have lost 4-5 due to primer pockets and I'm not running a light load. Good stuff in my book!

RMD

Brought my first batch of Hornady brass, 223 Rem caliber. In the 50 round bag I found no defects. Often I find anywhere from 2 to 5% defects in Winchester brass and about 1 to 2% in Remington brass.

I had to full length resize the unfired brass since the headspace was off. First time I ever had to full size new brass for this reason but subsequent reloads have been fine with full size and slight shoulder bump.

The brass was "used"....you can't base a judgement on brass quality from brass fired in another chamber with unknown loads.

It was fired in a RPR of my friends and it was a factory load, I can make a judgement especially considering the brass I made has been shot out of the same RPR and it shows none of the problems the Hornady brass did.
