factory barrels

I cannot say for I have yet to try this myself, but with that said I would say try it, what can it hurt. If anything you will get the results you had intended anyway. Sometimes you just got to step up to the plate and swing.

I have lapped the bores of factory hunting barrels with mixed success. When it worked it worked well. Had an older Ruger 77 in .257 Roberts that was a bonafide 2 moa barrel. Lapped it and groups shrunk to around .5 moa. Can't hurt as long as it is not over done.

I've tried it with the Tubb system before. No increase in accuracy that I noticed, but it did make the factory barrel easier to clean. Also pushed the throat forward about .030" if I remember right.

I have used the tubb final finish bullets on 2 308 rifles..1 st was a 788 rem & 2 nd on a rem 700 sps 308..both worked great for me, on accuracy and cleaning..YMMV..try it its cheap and really nothing to lose..Danny

OK, this is going to sound crazy but here goes. The Tubb system is very well thought of, but as others have stated may not make a poor factory barrel show much improvement, and does lengthen throats. Another approach is to buy a small tube of Arm&Hammer Baking Soda toothpaste, wrap a tight fitting bronze brush with a patch soaked in the tooth paste and have at it. Repeat as necessary. This is a very mild abrasive and should not change leed length at all. May smooth out tooling marks some and contribute to less bullet damage as rounds go down the barrel. Some recommend JB's instead, but a trial size of the tooth paste is less than $1 at Walmart and if it doesn't help you can always use the rest to brush your teeth. Be sure to clean out the barrel well, with bore cleaner, before firing any rounds.

The Tubb system is not like shooting gravel and going to tear up your barrel, nor is it magic and going to automatically fix a badly made barrel.
