Factory barrel re-chamber from 223 to 223 AI worth it??

Hi
Is it worth re-chambering a Factory Ruger VT 26 inch varmint barrel 223 to .223 AI.

I have been offered the barrel,s) NIB at half what any other barrel will cost me to get here in Aus. I have been offered either a 1:9 or a 1:12 twist.
This will be a pest popping rifle only so which twsit do you recommend

I have an AI boddy die and a Lee collet neck sizer do I can load the brass.

What are the threads on a Ruger and will it thread upto a Tikka 595 action??

Thanks
later

It really depends on what you plan on doing with the rifle and how much the rechamber job costs. Iy you are hunting, plinking, informal target shooting...the factory bbbl should work just fine. I usually pay $80-$100 for a rechamber job. If you have lots of brass to form, it is probably worth getting the bbl just to form the brass so as not to use up an expensive custom bbl. I have purchased cheap used factory bbls just to fireform brass and use for hunting.

Good Luck

Chris

I had my factory Rem barrel rechambered to use for a fireform barrel. It really came alive as far as accuracy went, I would guess the chamber and throat were straightened out. Fire formed 1000 rounds for my 223 AI in it and decided to keep shooting until it went south on me. Lasted about 3000 rounds. Have a bunch of fireformed brass now for my Hart barrel.

In my experience factory Ruger barrels are junk and in my opinion it's not worth investing any time or money on them.
