factory 17HMRs?

Are any those off the shelf factory 17HMRs worth buying for idle target shooting. I reload for my .223s and 6mmBRs, but I'd like a caliber that I didn't have to reload for. 22LRs just don't have enough sting. Any recommendations in 17HMR, like a Savage or CZ.

I have a great Anschutz 17hmr... myfriend has a Cooper which he likes also... either one of these should make you happy

My marlin 917VSF has shot 20gr gamepoints into 0.48' at 100m. I thats straight out of the box and after about 200 rounds through it.

However with the price of 17hmr ammo going nuts here, im selling it and just loading down my centefires if i want short range ammo

Bought one of those .17 HMR CZ Varminters for my son. Well made little rifle that shoots amazingly well. Even with the cost of .17 ammo going up, it sure is nice to just go buy 500 - 1000 rounds at a time and not worry about reloading for it. Very easy to shoot, accurate and effective on small varmints.

The trigger could use some attention, but I understand that there are aftermarket spring kits to solve the mushy trigger pull.

The guns are good but it's cheeper to load your 223 than buy 17HMR. IHMO the 22mag is better and CHEAPER I've had Annie's in both Carts. traded the 17HMR still have the 22mag. BTW they both shot eaqually well.

I am a big fan of the 17 HMR!

I have a bone stock Marlin 917 that will routinely shoot 3/4 inch 5 shot groups at 100 yds, some times much better, rarely worse. I have three friends with the same rifle,2 blued like mine, 1 is stainless) that do the same. Trigger needs to be worked on, otherwise ready to go out of box.

Most folks get better accuracy with the 17 gr v-max than any other bullet.

Most of the 17 HMR ammo is loaded by the same manufacturer and just packaged in different boxes under different brand names,Federal, Hornady, CCI). We have found that there is some lot to lot differences in accuracy, but not really between brands. I have probably shot about 4,000 to 5,000 rounds through mine so far.

Easy to clean, they don't typically copper foul, but does take 17 cal specific cleaning equipment, which can be heard to find).

We used to use these extensively for shooting prairie dogs to about 200 yds, but the 17 HMR cost,$0.24 per) is now comparable to .223 handloads,$0.17 per plus my labor).

im just selling my 1517 annie the price of ammo here [uk] is ridiculous so getting rid.im hoping to snare a donor action or buy a completed rig in 17ak hornet i think i can reload this cheaper than the 17hmr.its a shame really the hmr is one sweet round and very accurate but when it costs too much its gotta go.

I have a lefty Savage 93, blued. I buffed the sear, greased the trigger parts and turned the accutrigger to it's lightest setting.

I whopped a groundhog at 200 with it on Friday. I played hooky from work and was using the 17 for hitting stationary clay birds at 200 while spotting for a friend. The stupid 'chuck walked out and sat next to the target post, it was almost too easy.

I hit numerous squirrels, birds, crows and starlings) and chipmunks with it. The 17 Vmax is the only bullet I shoot because the 17 JHP's and 20 Vmax don't perform as well, the JHP's flat out suck. The Vmax shoots significantly tighter, so I stick with it.

Ammo costs more than 223's do, but it's a no recoil, manually operated rifle that my girlfriend enjoys shooting and it's surprisingly accurate. 1/2' 100y groups are normal on calm days and keeping them within 1' on anything but the windiest of days is not too hard.

I managed several repeated hits on a 400y steel 23'x36' plate on different days, but it's already subsonic at that range. 300y is a more reliable cut-off for it.

5 of us guys have 17s. We get together once in a while. We are lucky if 1 out of the 5 shoot a 5 shot group under a inch.
I can't sell ours because I bought it for my wife. It is a salvage with a .800 od barrel. In a laminated red white & blue patriot stock.
