F/tr savage stock

My question is I have a chance to buy a savage stock with the 4.4 spacing. I plan on plugging the 4.4 hole and boring a new hole at the 3.4 location. I was wanting to try gluing on some wood in the front and flattening it out to be more stable in the bags and adding some wood to the rear to flatten it out. And then applying t2 layer of fiberglass and mat to stiffen it up. Do some body work on it and put a nice slick paint job on it

Do any of you with stock experience have any ideas. If this is doable?

If you are going to use the PTA action with 3.4'' hole spacing you will have to move the two outside holes towards the middle hole .5'' each. Finding the correct stock with 4.4'' spacing would be a big plus.

A forum member suggested to me a while back when I had the same issue to just tap the extra rear hole in the 3.4" action and drill and tap an additional front action hole at 4.4". He said he had done it to his 3.4" Target Actions. That way you can use a 3.4" or a 4.4" stock. Seems pretty simple and one additional hole isn't going to harm the action. I was going to do it, but decided to go with a Remington action for the build after coming across a great deal on a 700 SA chassis.

I'd even recommend using the 4.4" stock as a guide for the tap and for drilling the additional action hole. The center action screw is in the right location, so I'd install that action screw and then drill the extra hole and then tap both using the pillars as a guide.

I have 2 of these 3.44 actions and both were D&T'd at the old location just in front of the trigger ass'y. as well as the other 3 holes and only needed the hole up front to fit a 4.4 spaced stock.
