F/TR Reamer

Just getting started in competitive shooting. I have saved and gathered to build a F/TR rifle in .308. I plan on using Berger 200-20x and Lapua brass. My question is which reamer? I don’t mind neck turning or am fine with a no-turn. I’ve read so much it’s exhausting. I know I could call Manson or JGS but I know there is more experience on here than anywhere else; so I started here first. I’m not even asking for your personal secrets, but a simple point in a good direction.

I said this in another post but I’ll say it again. This forum is invaluable for someone beginning competitive shooting like myself. I’m not new to shooting or reloading but I am new to competition. I am thankful for all of you with experience that is willing to share it.

A call to any of the major reamer makers and they will give u the reamer that people are using. They are in business to help u be successful.

170 FB 342 343 Neck pretty standard, people do do some tweaks and personal preference but the 170 342 to 343 is the normal go to
Thank you. That’s what I thought but I wasn’t sure about the 170FB

Thoughts in general and not specific to an FTR reamer.

If your comfortable neck turning, get a tight neck chamber. That way to can run any brand or batch of brass and still maintain uniform neck clearance. .339 should allow you to run any of the popular match brass with a clean up.

Again with FB length. Consider getting a .050FB reamer and then a seperate throating reamer. That way you can run 155s with the reamer in as is OR lengthen the throat to suit ANY brand or weight bullet now or in the future.

It's additional expense but if you have the funds then consider having a FLS reamer made to match the chamber reamer. Ask your reamer maker to spec the body dimensions for you. Spec the neck diameter around .006" under the reamer neck diameter. This will pretty much allow you to FLS, neck mandrel and load. You can also use the same reamer to make a bushing FLS die.

As far as body dimensions I'm happy with the 95 Palma body. I believe the US FTR reamer is a bit bigger at the web which can help with clickers if your off the shelf die is a bit on the big side.
