F TR Load

Been having some issues with my die for anyone that has not followed my thread. Got out to the range today to do a seating depth test using the new die. Using the 178 BTHP and Varget I found my optimal powder charge to be 44.2 gr previously. Also since then uniformed primer pockets and sorted by neck wall thickness and new Forster Ultra seater reduced runout to 0.001-0.002 for me

These groups were shot at 100 yrds prone using a bipod. Seating depth test was done according to Bergers directions online. OAL measured at ogive was 2.227 #5(measures 0.547 edge to edge less .308=0.239") and 2.222" #4 shot the tightest(2 far right groups). The first group was she shortest OAL around 2.102". Seems my rifle likes being close to the lands

I think you are on the right track .
Next week you will be shooting that #5 group at 200 Y
Watch for pressure sighs as you get to Jam.

Gona have to try those Hornady's myself.

Thanks for posting that. I have been shooting five shot groups and have a few of those cloverleafs and two outsiders.

What barrel? Factory Savage?

Also can you measure the id of your comparator? Would like to see how ours compare. My chamber appears to be real close to yours if our comparator ids are the same.

Thanks
Ken

Shilen Stainless Select Match 26" barrel. I have not chronod the load yet but I am thinking it is right above 2700 fps. ID using my FA digital calipers to get rough estimate is it measures 0.297". Fired brass measures 0.343" too

Do you have any target pictures. I am not sure what helped but I did uniform primer pockets and sorted by neck wall thickness. Later down road when my shooting skills get better I am going to test weight sorting cases to see if it helps anything

You may be a bit under 2700 from a 26" barrel. If memory serves me, with that load my load I get ~2725 from a 30" barrel. That'll shoot, mine likes them about .015 off of the lands. You really need to get out further than 100 yards to see what's happening though.

XTR: I had been goin to 400 but lost my load so worked back up to it @100 to make sure. Am out of bullets so have to place my order. Will take it out to distance next time. I think I am going to stick with #5 for now.
