f-tr class 308

For you F class shooters if you could build a 308 from scratch would you build a palma rifle to shoot 155 bullets fast, say 2950 or go with 175-190 gr. at 2650 tops.looks like 400 inches drop with the 175 vs 330 or so with the palma bullet. Is light and fast the future of tatical f class?

The "T/R" in "F-T/R" stands for "TARGET RIFLE" not "tactical rifle".

The decision as to which one to chamber your rifle for rests with you. Loads using heavier bullets often generate more recoil. They may also not be legal for use at some ranges in Canada. The latter is only important if you choose to shoot in Canada.

Why are you concerned with drop? The distance to the targets is known, which makes bullet drop irrelevant.

you are correct about the known distance, so which will be better to combat the force of the wind which I guess was my real question. If I have the barel optimized for 155 it will be hard to stabilize 175-190 gr. thanks

the 2005 F/TR national champ used 190's, and the 2006 national champ used 155's, so I think it is more in the shooter than the bullet

Why not just use a 12 twist and shoot all the bullets?

Sometimes a barrel has its own prferences which may not be your intended goal.

There are some shooting 210gr VLD from a 308 so there is your other extreme.

Consider how much recoil you want to deal with and availability/cost of components. Test and go with what you feel works best for you.
