F/TR bipod question

I'm looking for advice from experienced F class shooters. With the newest generation of bipods available (sinclair, centershot, skipod, etc.) it seems that there is a benefit to letting the pod slide on the ground/pad.

Here is my problem - being short of $ to buy a good bipod, I'm making some "modifications" to my current one (a Harris look-alike). I have changed the feet out to increase the contact area and allow it to slide, but can I have too much? If I have too little surface friction, will the rifle just slide all over? Do I need to make rails on the feet to control the direction of slide? Has anyone tried this before?

Thanks for your input.

I made a bipod board for my Sinclair and Center Shot bipods to shoot F-TR. I cut a 1X12 board two inches wider than the bipod (per rules) and applied two strips of UHMW polyethylene tape to the sides. I also applied tape to the Sinclair feet. The Center Shot feet are plastic and it was not necessary. Then, I waxed both the board strips and the feet. It is now very slippery. It does what I want, which is present no friction when sliding to the rear under recoil. The one caveat is that my shooting position became much more critical. If I was not correctly positioned, the rifle would move laterally when recoiling. This has really helped me identify my natural position and reduced horizontal dispersion. The board has helped reduce vertical as well.

I shot the board in several matches and I am very satisfied with the result. We have a Palma match on 8 May and will shoot it again with my Savage .308.

When I couldn't make weight with the Sinclair bipod I uses theses feet. They help the bipod slide and not stick. Now I use the Sinclair and have made one of the above said board, just waiting to try it out.
