F TR bi pod stock rail

I realize almost all the F class and F TR guys are all out shooting !! The question is what rail system are you using for the front bi pod mount on your F TR stock ? What are the major differences? I have a sling stud at the moment. Thinking of cutting a rail into the stock. How long are they ? They're just held in with a couple screws...correct ?
Thanks again,
Rmist

The one most guys are running is a Anschutz rail about 3-6 inches depending on where you like your bipod

Thank you Eric

Can you buy a short piece or do you have to get the whole thing and cut it to the size you want?
Thanks again

I honestly can not tell you but I am sure with a bit of searching around someone might have a 3 inch rail for ya

If you mount a rail, it is usually mounted with some sort of 'T' nuts from the barrel channel thru the stock. Champion sells 12 inch pieces of rail really cheap. http://www.championshooters.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&view=category&virtuemart_category_id=6&Itemid=111
You will need attaching hardware and drill holes in the rail for some sort of flat head screws, and mill out the bottom of the stock.
What kind of bipod are you going to mount.

RMIST: you better say one of your bipods to GENERGY lol

I know I will be getting one if I ever go back to shoot without a sling.

But yes the rails are cheap and if you own a mill the job is a DIY

I have used the rails from Champion Shooter on 3 of my F class stocks. If you own a mill, or have access to one, mill a channel for it to set in. I used bugle head wood screws counter sunk into the rail.

When you have everything like you want it, mix up some DevCon epoxy and bed it into the stock just like your action. Then it will be rock solid and will not flex or twist!

This just about sums up what I have mine set up like.

Mine's a 10inch freeland rail bedded with DevCon, still need to screw it in though

Thanks everyone. Besides the width and depth of the 2 common rails (Freeland and Anschutz)...Freeland having thicker ear tabs per say.... any other real difference of preference? I haven't decided on which bipod as yet.
Thanks again,
Rmist

Get the Anschutz. From personal experience, some bipods won't fit in the Freeland rail. Had to have my stock milled out to install an Anschutz. I didn't know the difference, but I do now!

That's good advice, I went freeland because I knew I could get the mounting hardware to use it, otherwise I'd have gone with Anschutz. I just like the deeper/narrower profile on Freeland....personal thing
