F T/R Bipod

Hey gun (bipod) gurus. I got my first taste of F-class shooting last week and I love it. I learned very quickly that my harris non pivoting plain jane bipod isn't cutting it. I will be shooting in f T/R since all I have is a .308. I've reseached a few, but I would greatly appreciate the input of those (you) have been there and done that. Thank you for yalls help!

I have the Duplin and SEB bipods. Both are lightweight, sturdy and work fantastic. Prior to these two, I've used the Harris, Sinclair and Centershot.

I have two I like, the Evo Bipod from England and the Mystic Precision MPOD both have there + and - Both are solid the Evo easier to adjust for Elevation changes but heavier. the MPOD lighter and I feel work better with a rear squeeze bag .

I'll second the EVO bipod. Found great success with it (i.e. winning my state's long-range FTR championship with it) after getting my feet wet with a Harris. I personally could not consistently load the Harris, and the EVO provided a great solution for me (a novice shooter). It was recommended to me by a pair of talented shooters from Canada who claimed to have tried a number of ski-type options and this was their favorite. Getting it from England was easier that I thought, but not as easy as from Amazon.

+1 on the Mystic MPOD from EGW.

It is very well engineered. And at 16 ozs., it's about the lightest thing around.

I've used 4 bipods shooting F-class. My favorite is by far the SEB, but the others have some Pros to them as well.

Harris - I still use this shooting a .223 in FTR, but only because thats all I have that will work on the .223 stock.
Sinclair Gen 2 - Cons - No quick elevation adjustment and heavy. Pro - Solid, can find them cheap on used market.
Duplin - Pros - Quick elevation adjustment and easy to get set up on target. Con - No matter how hard I cranked, the cant adjustment would come loose during a string of fire.
SEB Joypod - Pros - Almost everything about it is a Pro, especially the fact that I don't have to touch/squeeze the rear bag, Cons - Take a while to get set up on target.

If I had an angled buttstock to ride the rear bag, I wouldnt mind trying the Flexpod or MPOD, but I am currently very happy with my SEB Joypod.

Thank you, guys for all the input. I really appreciate it. I've decided on the MPOD, because it seems simple and not very cumbersome.

Instead of starting a new thread, I just picked up a McMillan A3 yesterday and it is not pillar bedded or skim beded. Would skim bedding suffice or would the added rigidly of the pillars be beneficial to accuracy? Sorry for all the noob questions. Thank you!

My MPOD set up get a rug for the skids realy helps in getting thr rifle to slide

I was in your position about a 3-4 months ago, and decided on a Duplin. It is light weight (17 oz), easy to adjust, and pretty damn sturdy. It let me put a little more weight in the barrel. Like others, I did have issues with the cant adjustment coming loose, but it was easily remedied by replacing the external tooth lock washer with an internal one (can provide details if unclear). Still trying to find the perfect mat for under it, but that would be the case with any bipod.

Glad the MPOD is working well for you. The standard MPOD actually weights in around 12.5oz to 13oz ( weight varies a bit from production run)

The goal was to be as light or lighter then the common Harris swivel bipod. This goal we met.

The long leg set adds another 1oz overall.

Hope you are having a great off season and chat with you in the near future.

Wilbas, nice looking rifle.

Take care...

Jerry
