F-T/R 308 Reamer Question

Longtrain

My current barrel's life is coming to an end and I will need a new barrel before too long. I have settled on shooting the Berger 185 Juggernaut bullet in competition and would like a reamer that would optimize that bullet and possible 175 SMK's.
I am shooting Hornady Match brass, which I think is similar to Winchester in weight and have turned the necks to 13 thous. I don't see myself using Lapua at this point.

Is there a reamer out there that I can order to fit this bill, or should I just call Dave Kiff at PTG, (he built me a great reamer for my 223).

Looking to a starting point for this project. Thanks for any help.

The aforementioned Mr. Kiff is an excellent place to start. He knows a couple things about reamers, seating depth and appropriate neck diameter. Give him a call.

Dave Kiff has a reamer that comes labeled "F-TR" with a .342 neck and a .163 (or .168 I don't remember) throat that will work for just about any bullet you want to shoot.

Question here - I thought you had to have a STANDARD the 308 and 223s in F/TR. Are these Tight Necks - standand or custom?

The rule is a mirror of the Target Rifle requirement in the NRA HP rules.

The NRA rules state:

A rifle restricted to the chambers of unmodified .308 Winchester/7.62mm NATO or unmodified .223 Remington/5.56mm X 45 NATO cartridge cases.

ICFRA Target rifle rules state:

With the exception of overall loaded length, cartridges must comply with the SAAMI or CIP cartridge specifications for .308 Winchester or .223 Remington respectively

IFCRA F class states:

An F/TR Class rifle is limited to .223 Remington or .308 Winchester calibre chambers or their commercial metrification equivalents. Chamber dimensions must conform to SAAMI or CIP dimensions

I'm sure there is a clarification out there somewhere that explains that what they are concerned about is that the capacity is not changed. That you don't show up with a 308AI to gain advantage over the other shooters. The test would be that your fired brass would chamber in a SAAMI max dimension go no=go block.

That said, the SAAMI spec for the neck on a 308 is .3435 ±.002 so a neck at .3415 is still w/i the spec.
