F-Open Scope Recommendation

I am building my first F-Open rifle with a 6.5x284 and I am about to purchase a Sightron Scope. The scope I am looking at is a Sightron 6-24x50 SIII 30mm Riflescope
Stock # - SIIISS624X50LRD. Would you recommend this scope and is this a good option and price for $833.95 on SWFA? My budget is around $1000 to $1200.00

What is the most popular Sightron scopes you see out on the line?

I have seen few that top out at 24 power. 36X Weavers and Sightrons are popular. 12-42x56 Nightforce is the most prevalent at our range.

If you are going to stay UNDER 1200 bucks get a Sightron 10-50 x 60mm... If you want to spend a bit more get a NightForce 12-42 Benchrest model.. There is only about $300.00 or so difference. if you CAN go a bit past the 1200 ceiling, it would be WELL WORTH the extra$$$'s to get the NightForce... But the 10-50 Sightron is nothing to sneeze at either!

Before you get carried away on magnification; June - August you will be lucky if you can use more than 12x power due to mirage. Of course that depends on how blurry you like the targets to look. :-\

Remember that the Nightforce will in one or two years be worth almost what you paid for it and will sell very quickly.

Better to cry once.

I bought my first Nightforce 42X BR used for $1,000.00, I'm sure you can find a used one for around that price.

What about these two scopes? Any feedback? They seem to be a good price as well.

PLEASE do yourself a favor and go for the higher power model. It is still in your budget!

You can ALWAYS turn down but not up if you dont have it!

I have a 24 on my 223 FTR and went with a 12-42 on my 308 FTR.

+1

Gotta admit I am looking at more power than less to pick up mirage in the scope. I had two instances last year where guys with the spotting scopes (coaching new shooters next to me) picked up a small change in mirage (I couldn't pick up any mirage in me scope)...sure enough I was just that little bit out and lost points.

I run a 12-42 NF and 10-50 SIII, sure I run em low at times, but never lower than 20... Prob avg would be 36-38x, But when I can run wide open at 42 & 50, dang right I am glad I can...

I bought two brand-new NF8-32x56BR models for $1100 from Europtic. This is several hundred less than the 12-42 model and a great bargain in my book. Get that one.....it's a Nightforce and you won't regret it.
