F=Open rules interpretation

Thanks MTM,

What I really need to know is if everything forward of the action considered the forearm or just the part riding in the bags?

How wide of a forearm and rear can be used in F-Open?

Technically, the rules don't address the rear of the stock - at all.

Not sure *why* you'd need it wider, but to me it'd be the part in the front bag. Others may take a different definition of the matter. I don't believe it actually spells it out *exactly* which part of the stock is which - nor should it. There is always the 'spirit of the rules' clause - if the match director doesn't think it is legit... it isn't.

This is a very good question. Without a definite rule, I think that would come down to the match directors decision. Do you feel that a barrel block wider than 3" would be more solid?

My interpretation is the width of the stock IN THE FRONT BAG (that moves within the bag) cannot be wider then 76mm.

The rest doesn't matter except that is a whole lot of material eating up your overall rifle weight.

Thanks all.

Ringostar, not more solid in and of itself, but I need it to be .250 wider than the allowable width for a design I'm experimenting with. I didn't want to sacrifice bearing width nor spend the effort if it wasn't going to legal.

This was my understanding as we were writing the rules. Things may have changed but I believe the intent of the rule (originally) was to limit the width if the stock where it rides the front bag.
