F-open build help

I have been shooting my 260 Rem in mid-range F-open matches. I gather that for 1,000 yard events, a lot of shooters have chosen straight 284 a short magnum caliber like 7 SAUM or 300 WSM. Are people using short actions for these builds or are they using long actions so that they can accommodate the heavy VLD bullets?

If I wanted to be able to use a magazine with a new build (in other applications), what are my options? Do I need a stretch version of the short action AI mags and bottom metal? or can I use the 308 form factor AI mags?

For F-Open, the actions are "short" but not "short" like a 700 Remington S/A. I shoot a Panda, BAT Mod.M and a Defiance Deviant. I believe ALL of those action manufacturers make actions like those for F-Class that are also designed for a repeater. There is special bottom metal that is sized correctly for the "short" custom actions. I know my BAT M, can handle my .300WSM and eject a loaded round up to the size of a 215 Hybrid.

The action that most are using are single shot from what I see. I went with a Borden single shot BRLXD for a 284 Winchester. It’s a long action and can unload a round without putting out the bolt from the action. I see most using the Borden BRMXD which is the short action. I wanted the most weight and being able to unload a loaded round without pulling the bolt. But have a action that can be used for a tac gun and f class I don’t know but I’m sure others can steer you in the right direction. The other reason is more stocks are for a short action than long action. Every time I’m looking at the classified ad it’s always for a short action.
