F Class Technique

No Ron, you just use volume (or CAPS LOCK) and get in people's face when words fail.

My point was that an opinion from a 'sitting judge', federal magistrate or what ever flavor you like, has no bearing or relevance in this matter. Once again, trying bluster your way out of a hole that your mouth dug for you.

If the High Power committee makes a ruling, fine, so be it. Somehow I think you'll still find something to rock the boat about.

HI KEN,

MONTE AND I ARE GOOD FRIENDS AND HAVE BEEN GOING AT THIS FOR AT LEAST 4 YEARS -

HE PULLS MY CHAIN - I PULL HIS. THIS TIME IT WAS MY TURN - WE'LL BE SHOOTING TOGETHER SOON!! EH, MONTE?

ken, if you don't know it by now - shooters are very irreverant and totally opiniated!!

Slim,

What prone from the shoulder really means is you can not fire supine like this....

JOE, YOU ARE SO RIGHT!!

if folks think that shooting from the supine is not done, go to BISLEY and shoot MATCH RIFLE. there are some REALLY great shooters doing it the 'old way'.

Guys,

Thanks for the help, I softened up both bags, increased pressure both on the buttstock and the grip and the groups came down to about 7 inches. Winds were about 3mph, but I cant see my previous shot so it is hard to adjust for wind. I am hoping to to able to carry this over to shoots in Boulder City, NV. We typically have more wind here in Mesquite, NV but not like Boulder City from what I am told. Looking forward to a trip there.

F- shooting FROM THE SHOULDER!!
wheree does that say the butt MUST BE ON THE SHOULDER?????

if you'll note, the term 'from the shoulder' shows up under the 'rifle' section of the rules - NOT THE POSITION section of the rules.

i have it on good authority [from the man who wrote the rules] that he should never have put 'from the shoulder' in.

the HIGH POWERR cmte is going to have to clarify and if they? want the butt against the shoulder [at the time of firing], they willo have to say so!

what if the butt 'starts' 'against' the shoulder and 'ends' 'against' the shoulder. DOES THAT QUALIFY as the rules? staate now

another thing to consider, ICFRA - the WORLD ruling body does not have a rule covering the subject! - why do we worry about it?

if ;you really think about it, if your in the PRONE position, your BEHIND THE GUN! SO WHAT IF THE BUTT IS ON OR OFF THE SHOULDER - IT ENDS UP ON THE SHOULDER.

had this come before me several years back [i was a SITTING FEDERAL MAGISTRATE] i would have ruled - NO REQUIREMENT TO BE AGAINST THE SHOULDER. - reasons: not mentioned in 'position' and ambigious wording under 'rifle'. further, NO REQUIREMENT for U.S. to abide by/to higher regulations.

do we have any SITTING JUDGES reading this that would rule to the conrary? and why?

HABU

Sorry there Sitting Judge or what ever your Native American name is......

Your quote about it not being mentioned in "position" is wrong.......

Take a look at the High Power Rule Book under Postions, Secton 5, 5.3 & 5.6 ,they read as follows:

[5.3 Position of Rifle Butt - In all positions, except standing (Rule 5.12), the butt of the rifle must be held against the front of the shoulder on the outside of the shooting coat or shirt and must not touch the ground. In the standing position, the butt of the rifle may be held against the upper arm./b]

5.6 Prone - Body extended on the ground, head toward the target. The rifle will be supported by both hands and one shoulder only. No portion of the arms below the elbows shall rest upon the ground or any artificial support, nor may any portion of the rifle or body rest against any artificial support. The magazine may not compress the coat to the ground so as to provide artificial support (see Rules 5.2 and 5.4).

Sorry Ron I just had to............

There's to many skirting the Rules anyway they can, this ones covered, "From the shoulder"!

I had the same problem. I had to fight "torque" for several matches until I watched some of the older guys. My problem was that my rear bag was too close to the vertical portion of my stock where my right hand rest. When the gun would fire the recoil would send the rifle back into the 15lb rearbag. The rear bag wouldn't move so the energy was expelled in the form of muzzle torque. I moved the rear bag back a few inches and problem solved.
