F Class stock weights

Gents,

I am building a 308 F-O rifle with a Kreiger 31" barrel so may be up close to the 22# limit so stock weight is important. Is there a weight comparison source to aide in stock selection? Many thanks, Overbore

Overbore,
Tell us a little more about you rifle. What type of action, scope, rings, bases, etc.

It is hard to go over 22 lbs even with a straight 1.25 pipe on your rig. Most people have to add weight to come up to 22lbs.

I don't know of any chart that compares the weight of the various stocks, you will have to search each site to see how much the different stocks weigh.

Out of curiosity, I weighed a McMillan Tooley MBR flat top/with a heavy three way adjustable butt plate, that I am going to use on a new build this spring. It weighed 5 lbs.

I'm also not aware of any charts or sources.

Weight will vary, depending on the type of fill, glass fiber or beads, or foam), the amount of resin to filler, and the hardware used. A few more ounces here and there add up in a hurry. If you're really concerned about weight, it is always better to start light, and add weight later. I've seen pictures of benchrest rifles that had removable weights so they were weight legal in both light and heavy gun classes.

When I ordered my stock from McMillan,New Fclass stock) they asked how much the stock should weight, 2lb to 6lbs. I went with a 6 lb stock. Based on this, add up everything but the stock and see were you are for weight. You will still be under IMO and as others have said in this thread, you will still have to add some weight somewhere to make it up to 22 lbs. If you do add weight, make sure she is balanced. Too heavy in the butt may give you barrel jump and too heavy in the barrel may give you butt jump, either of which is vertical on the target.

Here is a thread on my new rig, have a look at the parts listed and pics, she weights 16lbs 12oz... hope this helps you and gives you an idea as to total weight...
