F class stock design

Just a little thinking out loud

Typically most F class stocks seem to have a parallel forearm and butt to ride the bags with. In benchrest they are usually angled back. Would there be any benefit of running an angled forearm and butt on heavier caliber 7mm and 30 cal F class guns to stop recoil/torque? I would make a guess that instead of jumping up and wanting to torque over there would be more of an inclination to recoil straight back and follow the slope of the stock.

Thoughts/opinions?

I assume you are talking about F-Open guns. Most F-TR shooters have some drop to the heel of the sock to allow for small vertical adjustments w/o messing with the bipod. (unless you are running a joypod, then it's academic)

Yes F open. The SSS dog tracker is the style Im talking about- just not with the offset fore end. Not sure in a physics sense if it would have a benefit over say a McMillan F class style stock.

Steve- yes I believe so. But I was wondering if there was any benefit of a stock having some angle to the butt and fore end in terms of recoil/tracking.

On another forum a shooter said he spoke to Bill Shehane regarding the angle of the butt on his stock. Apparently it helped the stock break off its position in the bag easier and helped tracking. Sounds more than plausible.

You got it completely backwards…….. to track it has to be parallel with the bore……. mine will still shoot a ten in full recoil……. jim
