Given the 22 lb weight limit in the F open class, do many shooters push the envelope, or do you end up well under this limit?

Myself and several friends have f open rifles. After we put a 30" 1.25 straight tube on a good action and a nightforce scope, you will just about be at the 22 weight limit. If you are shooting a 7mm or heavy 30cal bullets, I would try to be on the upper end. I believe if you are shooting f t/r the weight limit is 18.something pounds.

Mine is 21 lbs. 15 oz. In case my scale was off, I can always take off the sunshade on my scope.
Pushing the weight limit is pet peeve of mine. Too many rifles, particularly F/TR but Open also are too heavy. Anything you attach to the rifle counts in the weight....this includes mirage bands, sunshades, rain sheets, etc. Keep your rifle well under the limit with everything attached is my recommendation then you don't have to be concerned. If you are bothered by the additional recoil of 6-8 oz of less weight you better shoot a different caliber. Your scores will reflect it.

Thank you for the replies, I am trying to figure out what contour, You answered it. Now if I can just make up my mind as to what caliber ???
to answer your bbl contour question - i'd say it really depends on the cal. but what i've seen on the line is a bbl with a .900 pointy end, 30 - 32 "
guys that shoot big 7's go for the straigh tube [1.25]. on my .284 i have a st. tube - 32". with all the goodies hung on it [includeing extra sun shade + yellow filter and bipod] i clock in at 21# 13 oz. [BIPOD HAS 3" LEGS - USED TO KEEP GUN UPRIGHT WHEN NOIT SHOOTING]

now i shoot a BRUX and speaking with KEN L., i requested a contour not list in their cat. - he stated that they will mkes what ever contour - under 1.25 you want -no extra charge.
so i'm trying a 32" 7mm, 6" butt and than a 'slight' taper to 1.100" at the pointy end [HABU TAPER] - i figure it should save 7 -8 oz as compared to the st. tube.

Ron, Thank you, I am hearing more and more about the straight .284. gaining popularity. That one is tempting!
