F-Class Newb - Anschutz rail forend?

MikeMcCasland

Hey Guys,

I'd like to try to eventually ease my way into F-Open shooting, and I had a quick question regarding the legality of trying to do this inexpensively. I'm looking to buy a front "joystick" type rest, and I know I'll need a stock with a 3" flat fore-end to get the most benefit/stability out of it. The rig I'm currently shooting is relatively low budget (Savage-Action/28" 260/Sightron/etc.) and I'd prefer not to get a custom laminate stock made specifically for F-Class shooting; I'd strongly prefer to just save that $500+ and throw it into a future custom action/legit setup.

The action is sitting in a Choate Varmint Stock (full length alum bedded etc) which has an Anschutz rail under the fore-end. Assuming I were to buy an extra adapter, for the fore-end accessory rail, would it be legal to just tack weld a 3" wide plate to the adapter and slide it into the rail with locking screws or something to keep it stationary? If so, does something like this already exist, or is this idea just laughable?

Go to "Whidden GunWorks'... John has a plate designed specifically to fit 3" front bags.. Talk to those folks and they maybe able to help you on a particular fit.. But as far as "legality" goes>>>>as long as the rifle is under the weight limit (I believe it is 22 pounds) it is legal..

You can do it no problem. Sinclair also makes an adapter for 3" bags.

Don't worry about looks for now, as long as you keep them in the X ring no one will say a thing! ;)

Your fore end rail appears to be a Freeland not an Anschutz.

The "T" slots, rail width & depth vary between the two.

Gary Eliseo also makes the 3" delrin adapters.

Look under accessories.

I've used the Whidden bag rider and do not recommend it. Here is the best I've found: http://www.sinclairintl.com/shooting-accessories/benchrest-equipment/benchrest-adapters-prod45123.aspx

This thing is rock solid, allows you to squeeze the bag tight from the side and works great.
