F Class Nationals Junior Shooter Awards

I would like to find out who is interested in helping sponsor junior awards for the F Class Nationals in both open and ftr. The juniors have always been left out of the individual match awards with only an aggregate champion being awarded. The young folks are the future of our sport and should be encouraged to continue. First, second and maybe third place for each match and then the same for aggregate would be phenomenal. Or maybe first for each match with 1,2 and 3 for daily agg and then overall agg. Parents spend a ton of money and time for these youngsters and they should have awards to take home and share with their friends. More awards will draw more young shooters.

They should be treated like the adults, if they win a higher award in something else then the junior award goes to next junior.

Anyone on board to help with this?

Jen,

Great idea and thanks for bringing attention to this issue.

What kind of help do you need from the shooting community?

We will also do a prize table for the juniors so donations for prizes will be appreciated.

McMillan Stocks has donated certificates for 2 stocks, Damon Cali has offered coupons for bullets. Please help support our junior shooters!

Things are coming together. Now all we need is donations to purchase or stuff donated for prizes.

Thank you so much to those who have already donated.

SEB has donated a mini rests. Thank you Seb.

Chamber Chiller has donated Chillers and put some money towards awards.
Thank Steven Flood

Several people have donated to help purchase awards. I am not sure who may want to remain anonymous so I will say thank you to those who have done so.

Lets keep going and make this an amazing shoot for our juniors.

Can everyone with a junior shooting in F Class Nationals please message me what they will be competing in?

Wow. This is really encouraging to see folks stepping up to support juniors. My two teenage boys and I have just started into F-class and yes, it is expensive trying to put together three rifles and get ‘em tuned with proper handloads. It’s all fun though. For the kids to have the idea that they could come away from the match with some nice gear or medals is a big deal and is sure to carry weight when they show it off to their friends. Y’all keep it up.

Regarding the junior shooters.

Everything is going well regarding the raising of donations and awards for the juniors and we thank you very much. It has unintentionally sparked a little controversy and my intent was not to cause a rift but to bring together the shooting community to support the young ones.

To make this clear I do not apologize for advocating for our junior shooters, without them we have no future. I would like for everyone to understand what prompted this. Our juniors and their parents have to deal with schools which as we know today are mostly not real gun friendly, guns of any kind. Just the mention closes people ears. Not only are these youngsters asked to deal with missing a week of school and making up that work but most are involved in school activities of some sort. So they are punished with an unexcused absence, which if they miss to many days causes them to be failed and held back but they also are punished by not being allowed to compete in the other school activites for a period of time. With all this why would they want to come shoot other than the love for the sport.

I am not advocating for them all to get an award but for them to at least have a better opportunity for awards against people closer to their age and experience. Now prizes are a little different, I feel they should be rewarded for their dedication to the sport and their willingness to work harder at school. Thank you to everyone who has donated for the juniors and now lets all get together, support our future and enjoy some shooting.

Kudos to you Jen for doing this and I and many others say to Hell with the folks that even think this is not a Great thing you’re doing. Thanks

Jenn, what you are doing is appreciated.
You are an ambassador for the women and juniors of this sport.
If anyone has a problem with that, tell them to pound sand.
We have enough negative forces working against us in shooting sports we certainly don't need it from within our own ranks.

My son shot as a Jr for many years when he started out in FTR. Our local club did a great job at making sure they were awarded as a separate class. That certainly helped is his motivation.

Now that he's not a Jr anymore, he's told me he enjoys competing against the adults more now! :)

So great idea. I feel while he was always competitive, the recognition as a Jr helped build that competitive spirit.

You have outlined perfectly why the timing of the Nationals is moronic.

I am unable to bring my family along with me to Nationals each year because it is during the school year.

Why isn’t the Nationals scheduled during summer break, June-August? I know my girls would be more likely to shoot it and I would not be selfish by spending that time away from my family, it could be part of “our” vacation. I am doing exactly that in 2 weeks by attending the Canadian Nationals and taking my family, making a family trip/vacation out of it.

Sorry for the rant and derailing, but the timing of the Nationals is not conducive to Junior attendance!!

This is why Rick Jensen started the
Under 25 Championships

They will be July 6 - July 10 2020 in Raton NM

That helps for the Juniors to shoot a separate championship, but what about those that want to shoot “the” championship?

Also, what about those that have to be away from family because they cannot bring their family along because of school?

I think that is a completely different thing, a great thing for juniors, but not what I was speaking of.

(Maybe a rant for a different thread!)
