F-Class Front and Rear Rest

I have an el-cheapo Caldwell rest I've been using for my plinking, but now that I'm stepping up, I'd like to find a good front and rear rest or a 1-piece rest (like the 1000LP).

I've read through some older posts, and the John Loh (JJ Industries) rest looked to be a good fit. Unfortunately, they're no longer available. I'd love something with built in bubble levels and large knobs.

As for the rear, I'm not sure if bags or some type of adjustable mechanism would work best.

I have no set budget for this, so anything goes.

I use a Farley rest with Edgewood bags front and rear. The best front rest for F-class largly depends on your budget and time frame. Some of the best rest out there are tough to get and you sometimes wait months or even years. Edgewood is the best rear bag made period. One of the most important things with rear bags are that they fit your stock and are the right height to fit your needs.

As I said, I have no set budget. The sky is the limit.

Since I'm fairly green, I think I'd like to avoid the joystick rests. Adjustment knobs seem easier to control.

So far, I've looked at the Farley, the Randolph Machine, and the 1000LP.

I'll be using this to shoot from a bench (most of the time). I've never shot prone, so I'm not sure if that's a big factor with these rests.

If it's money you want to spend then the JJ would be the one to get for the front...........

I have seen many Matches won and National Records set with a Caldwell BR rest under an F-Open Rifle.

As for the rear per the NRA F-Class Rules in both High Power and Fulbore you are limited to a bag, no adjustable mechanism is allowed.....

NRA Rulebook is here:

I bought one of these from a member here on the forum....top condition.....for $550 delivered, and they can had new (when in stock ::)) at Sinclair for $650. I'm VERY happy with it. You can spend more, or less....YMMV. Good Luck!!

If you want a great, easy to use rest for F Class this rest is the best out there in my opinion. The joy stick is way-easier to use than turning knobs IMHO. I have used both and believe the joy stick is more repeatable and stays on target shot-to-shot than any other method bar none. YMMV.
This rest is built by a contributing member of this site and sticks behind his product in customer service.

Keep it simple and go for a joystick rest. I have in the past used a bald eagle type with the windage knob and a speed screw in benchrest and also f class and I can assure you it is far easier to just move one joystick to get 'on' or aim off. Each time I look at shooters messing about with speedscrews and windage knobs, it looks messy and out of control in comparison with a joystick type. I use a Farley and very pleased with it.

I'm nervous about the Joy stick rests. I imagine them being prone to jostling, but have really no experience with either variety.

So far, the Farley seems to be a popular choice. It looks beefy and well made, so I suspect I will have no issues with it.

If you want a joystick I have a friend thats getting out of the business. He has a old style SEB and a Farley he is wanting to sell.

Pick up a used Bald Eagle and have some custom F-Class feet made for it.

WAY more adjustability than the Sinclair or any others I've seen. Notice the elevation difference on the side of a little hill between the two front feet. Try that with another front rest. I still had plenty of adjustment left.

Rear bag from Protektor is the way to go. F-Class bag is 4.5" tall and has 1" between the ears.

Too Cool to see the two above pix. I have the same bald eagle the Bob Viperized for me, shoots great. Now my daughter is shooting F-class with me, she uses the viperized bald eagle. I had Bob make me long adjustment legs/shafts and send me a set of his viper feet and then installed them on my big viper BR rest (like coreydelong's) and now I am shooting off that 45# plus rest prone in f-class and it really is flippin super solid on the ground too. And I like shooting off it more than my bald eagle. but I have a plan for that to get re-viperized yet again..

Go Team Viper!!!

I shoot a Farley on southwestern ranges and think the stick is a big help changing hold quickly for windage. Our conditions can shift rapidly and target holds change significantly from shot to shot. In the same category, a SEB NEO would also be a good choice. If your conditions tend to be more stable, a conventional rest might serve well at a lower cost. [br]
We shot a 3X1000 Sunday at Camp Pendleton and the winning F-Class score was a 577. High X-count for the day was 18. Tough, rapidly switching conditions cause lots of nines. :(

man am I glad to see someone has that rest I was just about to start a thread asking about it , I am left handed and I like the idea of windage being in the rear of the rest, they say i can flip it around to adjust with right hand , is it stable, i use a caldwell br after every shot i am having to adjust hight it is a real pain, I am thibking of buying next wk for $650.

I believe a FClass shooter has a big advantage with a joystick rest. If you are adjusting knobs you have to get out of your shooting position to do this. I always joke that FClass shooters have short arms. You have several choices, Magnum, Farley, Seb, and Shadetree are the most popular joystick type rests and rest tops.

I bought a left handed John Loh (JJ Industies) rest from John a month ago. He had them in stock. He is still in bussiness and makes a great rest.
