F-Class Camp Perry News

The NRA has posted F-Class scores for the L-R matches on the web site at - http://compete.nra.org/championship-results/nra-national-outdoor-rifle-pistol-championships-results.aspx look on the bottom of the page.

If I added correctly in F-Open, Bob Bock from "Team Berger" is leading David Gosnell of "the Long Shots" by 1X. Bob has a total so far of 792-36x to David's 792-35x. An interesting tidbit is David won match # 703 which is the FC equivalent of the Sling shooters "Leech Cup" shooting a 200-11x and a shoot-off score of 99-2x. While Bock won match #704, the FC equivalent of the "Wimbledon Cup" out right with a 200-9x. Great shooting! Don't drop a point around these guys.

In F/TR it appears Team Berger's Jim Murphy is currently in the lead with 772-23x followed by Dan Pohlabel who has a 762-17x.

Bock is using a SEB Neo and Murphy a SEB Joy-Pod. Both of course are using Berger's & Bartlein's.

Bob did not win match #704, the Patriot Match. While he got into the shoot off by shooting a very impressive 200/9X, he did not win the shoot off. He did win match 702, the minute man match, while David Gosnell won match 701, the Defender Match, and 703, the Freedom match. As the format goes, each match is it's own individual, with no grand agg.

Jim,
Thanks for the corrections. The NRA site does not show any shoot offs for match 704 or 708. I made an assumption and you know what that stands for. The program list an agg for the sling shooters and none for FC, but I hoped that was a paper work mistake. You are shooting well also and are still in the hunt. Good luck on Saturday.

Great job guys, and good luck on the remaining match!

ATB,
seb.

Thanks Larry for the info. Hope to meet with you guys again in the 2014 US Nats.

Larry,

They are sometimes slow with posting results. After all the shots were fired, smoke cleared, and rain delays were over, there was lots of great shooting. There were 6 or 7 different guys capable of winning any match at any time. I can tell this on my self...earlier in the week, I'd made the statement that I'd never crossed fired in competition...should have known better....center stage for the Minuteman match shoot off, I fired 3 sighters on my target, followed with record shots by a X and a 10 on the target next door! It really wouldn't have matter much as Bob Bock hammer his target with a 100/5X to win the match. I did manage to redeem myself and win the Patriot match shoot off, while David Gosnell cleaned up everything else. That guys smoke pole was hot this week. He put on a show and did some incredible shooting.

Hopefully next year, they have a grand agg for the FO guys like they do for everyone else. This was a great match despite the wind and rain. It's always great to see guys you haven't seen lately, and a privilege to shoot and compete in the shadows of shooting giants such as Bock, Biggs, and Murphy.

Wow, what a great trip to Camp Perry !! I shot the Great Lakes match and it was the best trip of the year by far. I won't miss a minute of it next year. Can't find the team results anywhere but enjoyed our battle with the Berger gang. Those guys are wonderful and still on their game. Special trip for my team and my son that we won't soon forget! I will be back priority 1 next year. Man that shoot off is great stuff !!

Sunday was the last team Palma match , USS CALEDONIA match ( team Berger won ) . I think there is a full bore match this week that Fclass can shoot.

What may well have been the most fun for me was the F-TR team matches.

We figured out in the first day of long range that there were no teams shooting F-TR. Dan Pohlabel and I tried to round up one team but we coudn't find 4 shooters so Dan committed to wind coach the Berger team. Jim Grissom was already committed to shoot on a sling team so we were pretty much dead in the water.

On the day of the first team match I got to talking to SSgt Altedorf (USMC) and we decided to do what ever it took to field a team. it looked like that may not be too hard till we realized that if we didn't have two F-TR teams we'd be shooting in F-open, and really, what fun is that with a 308?

SSgt Altendorf's wife was shooting F class so she could shoot, though not with the rifle she was using, we had one other F-TR shooter un-committed, so with 30 minutes to go we rounded up 5 other warm bodies.

On the first day my team consisted of myself, two open shooters and a Brit who had never seen an F class gun. We all shot my rifles and ammo (I had a backup and lots of bullets), and I did a pittiful job of trying to coach. On the other side I think either three or all four of the shooters on SSgt Altendorf's team may have shot his rifle.

On the second day we lost our British team member and one of the Open guys so we grabbed a sling shooter from the parking lot (not to say we are trying to corrupt anyone ::) ) and a Marine who wasn't shooting teams, switched up the teams a little and we did it again.

In the end we didn't threaten any records (they don't keep low score for 80 shots I hope) but we had a blast, we managed to put 10 people on the line over two days that would not have been there otherwise, and I believe a good time was had by all. Not a bad two days. (and like little league, everyone got a trophy ;D )

The Berger F-Open Team with shooters Danny Biggs, Don Nagle, John Brewer, Robert Bock, Captain Jim Murphy, Coach Dan Pohlabel won the second team match at 1,000 yards on Friday. They also won the Team Palma match, narrowly missing a new national record, same shooters with Jim Murphy Capatin and coaching. Congrats to all for a great job, I really enjoyed helping out.

Dan Pohlabel

The results for team are up on the results site. http://compete.nra.org/championship-results/nra-national-outdoor-rifle-pistol-championships-results.aspx#7
