f class build

Hello. l
Looking at actions for my first f class open build. Right now I have everything figured out but which action to get. I was looking at the Kelby, borden and bat. Any opinions? I'll bet there are at least two or three out there. LOL

I doubt that there are any good reasons not to use those 3, or one of many others. All well made "custom" actions will make an accurate rifle. But other factors may be in play. I use Barnard, as they are made locally, and at the time readily available. So lead time on delivery? Are there any ergonomic factors - trigger mounting, bolt handle style or length that you desire? Budget?

All are outstanding choices. The real question is which one can you actually obtain before you're too old to participate any longer? ;)

Lead time on quality actions can be as long as 12-14 months (or more) right now, so finding out what is available and/or how long the lead time might be would be a good place to start. In terms of performance, you're not going to go wrong with any of those companies.

I would also suggest looking carefully at the stock you intend to put the action in. There are differences between Rem 700-type actions and and those with a much deeper tang that require a thicker bedding area/pistol grip. Make sure the action you want will actually fit correctly in the stock you want. I made that mistake once a long time ago and you really don't want to go down that road.

All 3 are excellent. Borden tends to have the best timing. But there’s no regrets on any of the them. See Ned’s post above..

You have definitely hit the top 3 right on the head. From there you're splitting hairs with what you like, trigger time, barrel timing, cock on close, price, integral options, etc, etc, etc

Another vote for Borden, my personal favorite. I have a Stolle Panda that is very nice as well. If you go the Borden route have Jim time and fit a trigger at the same time. Mine is amazing and always goes bang in sub zero temps. I have had a few Remington's just go "click in cold temps. Not what you want when coyote hunting, to say the least!

I've got a couple Bordens and a Bat. They're both excellent, and I'm hard pressed to say one is better than the other.
