F Class Brass management

With the odd number of shots often fired in matches, it gets hard to keep brass segregated in lots of same number of firings. As long as all brass has been fully prepped, annealed and checked for head seperations issues, is there really any difference in performance?

I do try to keep it all in rotation so cases are within a firing or so of each other.

Thoughts?

Starting with new brass, I generally have a minimum of 100 cases or more in a worked-up/fully prepped lot, more commonly 200 or even 400. Of course, one of the main prep items is weight-sorting. Whatever the weight-sorted value of a particular weight-sorted batch is, that becomes the lot number. For example, for Win .284, I might have "Lot #196(-) Lapua", meaning the average lot weight is 196.0 grains, or (+) if 196.5. When an individual case is started out in a certain lot number, it lives and dies in/with it. I maintain data on the number of times fired by lot number, when annealed; and never combine old lots with new lots of the same number. Primer pocket attrition thru firings may draw down a lot's quantity faster than anything else for me. I never get to see split-cases. I will discard the lot in bulk when I can no longer fire at least 3 20-shot matches, with 5 sighers each (total 75) with snug primers...usually with a minimum of 8 firings in .284 or 7mm RSAUM.

I've tried, and failed to keep close track, even with lots of cases in rotation.

    My system is now...
    • Decap
    • Anneal..
    • do what ever prep I do
    • Throw away the ones with loose primers.
    • charge them, and put in bullets.

For bigger matches I will sort by weight after prep and before loading.
