Ezell PDT Tuner mod

Some will claim complete heresy but, after another cleaning session and pulling
for it's newest barrel use, I turned the lights on at the skunk works and powered
up the roto-phase......I pulled the the Hart Max Varmint I'm using for my newest
7.2 cat to thread up for a tuner. I had the PDT on the 284-ELF which I retired, and
now will use it on the 7.2......This plan came into being in an instant and being
planned out as I indicated the barrel. I've been known for stepping off the path,
so why stop now ??......For those using this most excellent tuner, The barrel is set
back and inside the tuner body. Soot and hard carbon can and will get built up if
not getting a good cleaning after each use. I don't think I'll need to clean anymore.

Pics to come as site is running slow and the first one I'm having an issue with.

Mine too. Mike may want my head after this.........or not.....LOL
Been there, done that. It's yours but I'd be very careful machining the ID larger. I can see it now...someone chucks up and cuts into the pockets containing the tungsten powder. I really can not imagine anything worse getting spread all over a lathe.

Ultimately, I make them the way I do, for a reason and once you are proficient with using them, removing it for periodic cleaning is just not an intimidating task.

It'd be great if you shot the sine test, both before and after. ;)

Well here goes.....Thread is about 1-7/8th" in length. Threads look a little
ratty but, that's the dark molydisulfide powder I brushed on. No grease.
Clearance was checked for the new bore in relationship to the tungsten
pockets. Lots of room. I bored to the beginning of the original thread and
left it .0015 undersize. I did not knock off the tops of the thread and left
them sharp. This way, as I thread it on, it will actually cut into the new bore
ever so slightly to make for that perfect fit. It fits so good that the original
3 screws used for tension don't need much turning in......The muzzle itself
sticks out .160" with tuner screwed in tight. Plenty of of room to work with
along with extra material for re-crowning when needed. I do touch up my
barrels a few times during their life. I did also add an o-ring at the front.

Done !! It's just another of my one off exercises. Still waitng on a point up
die for a press I built, and we'll get this out to the range.....Stay tuned.
