Sorry Grim I was a little to personal . I admire your spirit and love for the Mosin . I've rebarreled many lately , some in 30/40 Krag . Have you ever tried working with Mausers ? You should try one if you get a chance .
As you can tell I'm new to computers , more at home making chips .
Again I'm sorry for getting too personal , Gary

Hello,

Mosin barrels are really tight, couple hundred ft-lbs if I recall.

The UK-59 barrel fits nicely. You have to do a bit of work to it of course, but it's a nice fit and there have been a lot of very precise conversions done with it.

There are several very popular Mosin conversions. In Russia and the former Soviet states in which the 7.62x54r is still popular, they have rounds like the 9.3x54r, which is an excellent sporting round from what I gather.

A popular conversion is to 7.92x57JSS (8mm Mauser). You have to modify the bolt head for the rimless cartridge, but other than that it's pretty straightforward.

There were a lot of .30-06 conversions done, some known as "Bannerman Conversions" for commercial sales, and others were done by the US Military for issue to soldiers. (Yes, we issued Mosin-Nagants to certain units, guards and reserves. The Polar Bear Expedition used 7.62x54r Mosins.)

However -- and this is important -- the .30-06 round is too long for the chamber. The neck portion extends past the chamber and into the barrel. From what I understand, this has caused failures of the bad kind.

Any round 57mm or shorter should work just fine in a converted Mosin. The action is extremely strong; it's on par with the Arisaka action. Experiments have been done by gunsmithing schools and by YouTubers alike, and all have found that it's nearly impossible to make the action open with an over charge.

The gunsmithing school experiment used a compressed charge of Bullseye behind a heavy bullet.

A popular YouTube guy used a bunch of swept-up powder from a gun range. They managed an explosive weld of the lugs, but the action held.

Ok so lets get this back to accuracy. These bullets originally had a BC of .489 on the G1 scale. The original bullet weighed 147gr and had a diameter of .312in. Now when I solve for i (form factor) get that number put it back into the formula for BC then plug in the new weight of these bullets (132gr) I have a new BC of .43248 Do any of the math and ballistic gurus here think I am on the right track? Before I go around quoting the new BC to people I would like to hear it from those more experienced then me.
As for accuracy the guy that makes them says they are fine out to about 300 yards but don't expect to be ringing gongs at 1000. I only shot two and they hit where I aimed so they seam to be at least better but then surplus out of a spam can. And then again I am using better brass and a cci BR-2 primer with what is probably much better powder too.

Psst... 212 Round Nose, Cupro-Nickel plated, around 2100fps.

Josh I know the YouTube Chanel your talking about.

I don't get the last post though.

The last post was a slight correction on the original load.
