Experience with A&D FX-120i

Just charged some cases with my new A&D FX-120i scale and I had a question or two for those of you who have gained experience with this scale. I used a small Lee scoop to get within about a grain of my target weight, and then dribbled in the remaining granules with an RCBS powder trickler. I was loading VV N133 and discovered that one granule seemed to weigh close to .02 gr.

I noticed that as I was trickling in the last granules, about two or so at a time that when I had added several granules at once, the exhibited weight would first show, say, 27.46 and then go up slowly, over a period of maybe 2 or 3 seconds (without my adding any more), to 27.48...27.50, and then would stop at the highest weight, 27.50. I took that last weight shown to be the correct weight. Have any of you seen the same behavior from your FX-120is?

It probably isn't necessary, but I made a habit of zeroing the scale each time before dumping a charge.

Any tricks I should know about with this scale?

The time frame your referring to is what is called: stabilization time
From which, a second or 2 would be normal wait time.

If your scale is staying stable and returning to zero, you should rarely have to "re-zero".
If it is not stabilizing, your setup has issues.

Good Luck
Donovan

^^^ As said above setting the scales weight reading time to fast is also what Adam from Adams Trickler recommends when setting up his Trickler with AnD 120i scale.

I use Fast mode, Stability set to zero, and Zero Tracking at 3. If you aren't having any problems with the scale, you shouldn't have to reset zero every time. To check mine, I have a test weight (actually a 75.0 grain bullet) and spot check from time to time. Mine always reads 75.0g. If by some chance the temperature or air pressure is changing and it would drift, then reset zero and check it again. I had a lot of trouble initially, but it was due to problems with the house electrical supply. I got a TrippLite line conditioner and put a couple Fair-Rite RCT-2 Ferrite Bead chokes on the line and that ended my drifting and instability issues. I had a couple cheap eBay chokes but they didn't help. I followed these instructions and double wrapped them with the power cord. http://www.oldwillknottscales.com/how-to-install-a-ferrite-bead.html Sometimes it still takes a second or two to get stable and settle on a reading so don't rush it.
