Expanding 7saum to 30 cal issue

Running a 7saum case in a 300 saum die. Using the FL die to expand the necks. Seems to be causing issues by leaving necks pulled off center. Even tried running back in FL die with expander ball removed. When I turn necks it’s turning 80% of the neck but one side isn’t and it is uneven cut in that side(turning from 16thou to 12.5 thou. So should be 100% clean)

Using imperial wax on Q-tip in case neck. Sizing on forester coax. RCBS FL die

any suggestions

The expander mandrel is the only way to do that right. I do 6.5 Grendel brass to 30 Major and it comes out fine every time.

I had similar problems expanding 6BR to 30 BR using a CoAx press. Expander mandrels did not help. Copious amounts of different lubicants didn't help; annealing the cases before expanding didn't fix the problem either. In fact, I never did figure out why the necks were coming out so off center and wrecking havoc with the neck turning operation just as you're seeing. I ended up doing several cycles of neck sizing with a 0.324 neck bushing and then using the turning arbor to push the neck diameter back out - turning each case 90° in the process. Two or three times doing this would straighten things out enough to turn the necks. My only recommendation would be to try a different press if one is available. Next time I make 30 BR, I'm going to use my brothers Rockchucker.

I have some 270WSM brass that I have to make into .300WSM brass. Here is MY procedure and it works!
1.) Virgin brass use 7mm mandrel and neck UP to 7mm.
2.) Anneal the brass.
3.) Expand the NOW 7mmWSM brass to 30 cal using a 30 cal mandrel.
4.) I neck turn to 12 thousandths neck wall thickness.
5.) Chamfer inside and outside of case mouths.
6.) Anneal once again>>>yes anneal again!
7.) Run the cases thru the 30 cal mandrel again.
8.) PRIOR to charging with powder, SWAB the case necks out with Imperial Dry Neck Lube
9.) Charge and seat the bullet.

Now you can use the brass in a match as it shoots extremely well. Once fireformed it will be absolutely perfect!

You'll also need an expander die to hold it, and whatever other expanding mandrels you purchase down the road.
