exceed COL to get bullet out to lands?

Looking at using some 70grn Nosler BTs in my .243.

In order to get them up to the lands I need to seat them out to 2.761. at this depth I have about 0.182 of the bullet still in the neck.

My books say 2.710 is max COL.

I single feed so I'm not worried about a mag.

Anything to watch out for?

That is lots of bullet in the neck. No worries. Not sure right at the lands is the best spot though. Bullets vary in bearing surface and some will be off the lands, and some will be in. I think it is better to go 0.010" in, or stay 0.005 or more off.

Edit:

I just noticed you said boat tail. You can't count the tail part. If you still have 0.100" or so of the full diameter part (bearing surface) in the neck you should be fine.

I jump the 70s by .050" and they work fine. Going into the lands I find it is better to not trim the brass excessively. Try to keep it as long as you can and keep it uniform.
