Everything is in for new conversion

Seems like everything arrived in two days time for my conversion to 6mmBR. I'm using my .223 Savage model 12 action, aftermarket laminated thumbhole stock and will top it with Sightron SIII 8-32x56. New bolt head and recoil lug came from Fred at Sharp Shooter Supply.

My new McGowen barrel, 28 inch, 1-8 twist, SS Savage bull is an animal. If it does not shoot well, I can use it as a spare axle for my Tahoe.

Will post photos later.

Gunsmith/buddy says he will have to inlet stock just a bit and re-bed more wood to support heavier barrel. Will also shorten stock by half inch, hey, I'm only 5-7...but good looking)and put some sort of leveling treatment below the Warne mounts to ensure a true fit of the scope.

 :thumb: :p;)

Ben,

I am looking for a Small shank 223 SS Varmint barrel for my m12. Are you going to part with the 223 barrel. If so how many rounds down the barrel and how much do you want for it.

Did you do anything with the trigger? When I did mine, I put in a Rifle Basic Sav 2 trigger and set it at 11 oz. It would go lighter, but sometimes the vibration from the safety would set it off, and I wanted to keep the safety.
Did you use a Richards Micro fit stock?
Mike.

Mike,I had already installed a Sharp Shooter Supply trigger that we got down to about 1.5 lbs and was at that time crisp enough. As I move on with the 6mmBR, I will see if I need to move it lower. I already have my 223 CZ regular trigger set at 1 pound, and the set trigger is set at 5 oz.--I just think about shooting and it goes off. Rifle Basix will be a consideration if the SSS does not work out in the conversion.

My aftermarket stock was bought from EAbco for about $200. It looks like a Boyd's thumbhole with the built-in comb and a broad forend with three ventilation holes -- nutmeg in color. It was bedded for my Savage SS fluted varmint barrel. But the new McGowen bull barrel will require a tad of inletting and rebedding. I also wanted it shortened a half to three-quarters of an inch because I have a little trouble reaching the bolt and running the action without having to take it off my shoulder.

Fortunately, my arm length did not dicktate other body member proportions.:thumb:

Actually, it looks exactly like this stock from Richard's Microfit. Maybe I did buy it from them,or EAbco gets them from him. Not sure now. But this is definitely close enough to give you an idea. I'll try to take a picture of mine tonight. It's a Target Thumbhole in Tigerwood Laminate.
