Etronix changeover???

Hi there...Have someone offering me a 700 Etronix...just wondering what it would take to change it over to standard 700?? Bolt? Trigger? and??? Thanks Much for your help

Bolt and trigger................Any Remington 700 trigger and you can get a bolt from Dave Kiff at Pacific Tool........

But if you look around you can find the primers at about $100 for 1000...........I have three of these Etronx rifles and they are a hoot to shoot!

The primers are more like $200 per 1000 now days. I thought you could use the bolt just need to install a regular firing pin. I'll have to look at mine again.

If any of you guys want loaded ammo in 243 for the etronix I can send you to a source(distributor) that has it at 7.99 per box in case lots. You cant buy the bullets and brass for that price. Most independent dealers would order it in at 10% over cost.

Thanks so much you people for the replies...please keep em comin....still not clear on this. Can the bolt still be used? I didn't find primers very cheap...more like $.18 a piece. Did they only make large rifle or small rifle too......seems like only large rifle from what I've seen........You guys are great!

I believe they made the E-Troninx AMMO in the following Cals, 223 Rem 22-250, 220 Swift, 243 Win., 308 Win. (possibly the 260), and yes I've seen the SR primers for sale (but it's been awhile). Also there was no MAG style just the LR/SR.

I own one in 243, and I believe it was 22-250, 220 swift and 243, never seen small e-primers.

With all the info on the net you would think these things were pure crap. They are about the nicest finished high polish SS you will find on a remy. The neat thing about them is no mainspring so not spring loading. bolt opening and closing are butter smooth with NO resistance what so ever. The trigger fireing sequence is so sweet. I can see why competitions allow no e-rifles. I would love to turn mine into an f-class rig, There would be a definate advantage with this rifle. No bag movement when manipulating the bolt, with 0 lock time.

I bought mine for $550 new when they were not moving and a chain store was ditching them. With ammo at 8 bucks a box, I could shoot 2000 rounds and sell the once fired brass all day at a GS for $20 per 100. making it about $4 box. Might be the cheapest gun I own, hell it is!

I could have sworn that the bolt body could be used in a change over. Its almost cheaper to change over than to buy $200.00 worth of primers. Firing pin assembly, trigger. No small rifle only large. 220 swift, 243 and 22-250 were the only chambering I ever saw. The trigger is good and can be adjusted. The bolt is butter smooth due to no firing spring. My 22-250 shots great until it gets hot and is also fouls pretty badly, but other than that it is great its fun to shoot. I bought my slightly used for about $500 and back then $100 for 1000 primers was reasonable but now they are off the deep end.

The primer igniter in the bolt has an insulator around it, so at a minimum it would need the BF/FP hole bushed. I am not sure if or how the cocking pc/bolt shroud on the e rifle compares with the standard for threads and such. That may be the turning point in weather it is doable with the factory bolt.

Jim See, can you email me the source of the loaded ammo. rvb100@comcast.net

Also for other folks, they never made the Etronx i 223....never made small rifle E primers.

I was told at one time that these actions and barrels received the same scrutiny as the 40X products. I know all three of my Etronx rifles are the most accurate Remingtons I've ever owned (with the exception of a couple 40X over the years)

The only issue with using one of these rifles in any competition, besides the rules, is that you are locked into this stock. All the electronics live in the butt stock.

The bolt cannot be used for regular primers. No cocking cam etc.

I bought a new 243 and couldn't find primers locally. I installed BA into a different stock and another bolt to see how it shot. Shot super with 70TNT. I then found some primers 200 miles away in Rapid City and accuracy was excellent with same load and only primer switch.

Then being a mindless gun tinkerer I bought a new regular bolt and sold the stock, trigger and bolt to a gent I think on this forum??? Believe he was going to build a suppressed subsonic or something like that. In order for the conventional trigger safety lever to function IIRC about .080 of metal has to be removed so lever slides fully forward. Guessing Rem did this for guys just like me and liability :)

Put it in a black tip laminated stock and it sure was a 'purdy' looking rig. Alot of bling, kinda like a flashy lowrider, you know a shiney thing that attracts racoons and women!!! Sold it to a young gent in MI so I could buy something else I didn't need.lol It was a great shooter and I got out of the electrical components about what I had into a new bolt, a trigger and the stock.

HTH

Respectfully,
Dennis

I had one in 243 for a couple years and it shot honest 3.5"-4.5" groups at 600yds with 105GR AMAXs and a 6-24x Redfield,1/8 dot scope. Great shooter and I miss that silky bolt. If the primers were not a fortune, I'd still own it.
