Let's say you had the same bullet, shot at the same distance, but with an old powder lot, you had a zero for 600 yards...a new lot shot 2moa higher than the old lot...how much faster is the bullet going? I'm using the 2156 Palma by Sierra. Varget powder. 44.5gr, which is well under max in the Sierra manual. Nothing but the lot of powder changed. Never chrono'd the old load, just curious how much faster it needed to go to be 2moa higher.
Thanks,
Ken

May not have been faster! Your different POI could be from different barrel harmonics whereby the bullet exited the muzzle on a higher node!

22 fps.

Muhlern is correct and magnetospeed's are cheap. Seymour

... and hanging a magneto on the barrel won't move the group at 600 yds?

Hmmm....I don't think those magneto's are welded onto the barrel but they might be good for determining velocity to help ascertain MOA changes!

I can personally attest that a magnetospeed can move poi. On my current 223 barrel, poi goes up 1 in at 100y with ms attached.

Muhlern's suggestion becomes more likely when catshooters math is corrected to the range of a 200 FPS change required to produce a 2 moa vertical change at 600, with that bullet,( and blah blah blah) on MV alone. A Lot to Lot variance of that magnitude, in what is described as a mild load, seems "less likely" on the face of it. As a practical matter of Experience, these sorts of vertical placements occur quite frequently hanging off either end of a node. Perhaps I should have said 'chronograph' instead of magnetospeed to eliminate the shoeclerks. Seymour

I misread as 2 inches instead of 2 moa.

I had a lot of Varget that gave a 200 FPS change in a Dasher. Ended up with an 8 LB jug of fireforming powder. Gave some to all my buddies. Matt

I find it hard to believe that the new powder would go over 10 inches higher at 600. I do a lot of shooting and testing at 1000 and it takes even a good change to move that much. I think something else is going on. Matt

Don't be surprised, I chronoed some loads from my 22 dasher a few weeks back and found my new velocities are 300 fps slower than what it use to shoot. Basically only changes on this are newer sierra 80 grain bullets and the Hodgdon 4350. Disturbing it is as I was pushing those 80 grain pills out at 3400 fps and now they are showing 3100 fps. And this is same brass as before and same charge of powder.
