I just wanted to bring to everyone's attention the user "eric27" is a scammer. They responded via PM to a WTB inquiry I posted last week for a book (Serial Numbers of U.S. Martial Arms, Vol. 4), and scammed me utilizing Venmo. I should have done my due diligence beforehand, but when I googled...

Eric27 has been banned.

I went into his account and Posted a warning for every one I could find who had received a PM from the guy.

It appears one person may have been burned on a sale of rings. The purchaser paid through PayPal Friends and Family (at Eric27's insistence). NOTE: PayPal F&F Offers NO BUYER PROTECTION. Repeat, NO BUYER PROTECTION.

Please people, I have posted this a dozen times in multiple threads.

Also, you can defeat scammers like this very quickly by asking for CUSTOM PHOTOS.

If the guy is selling a scope -- Tell him to take a photo with the scope placed on an household appliance with a ribbon tied around it and a piece of paper with today's date and your name.

If he doesn't have the product he can't do that.

Again we have explained the importance of custom photos many times.

Guys, if a person has no trader history, START with the presumption that he is a scammer. Be WARY. Use the tools you have -- force the seller to PROVE his veracity.

And from the very start, insist on getting a residential address and listed phone number that you can verify.

So many scammers abound. There is a not a boat load but a Ever Given size container ship of them trying to fraudulently sell ammo loading components. Everyone of them doesn’t have a phone number and want to be paid with PayPal or Bitcoin. A lot of their websites can be traced to China and India. Here in the U.S. they use a third party or a vacant address to receive payments if a money order is used. In some Islamic countries a thief has a hand chopped off if caught. I believe these scammers should receive a frontal lobotomy best performed with copper clad lead.

I got scammed by Eric27! My bad ... I did not do my home work on this dirt bag and sent him Zelle $$.
Got excited about the deal and just messed up. He/she sent me photos of the exact product but not with a name tag as I should have requested. He sent me a PM here on AS ... although he is banned, I'm assuming there is no way to stop him from sending PM's?
Lesson learned here. Maybe this helps someone else.

1mil, sorry this happened. Just trying to think this out also to possibly help others. Was the item listed for sale on this site or did he respond to a “wanted to buy” ad that you posted?

Because I got scammed here (and it was entirely my fault for not following ANY instructions or guides) Now I will only purchase from someone with a history.
On top of that I'll only purchase from a site contributor. Now that limits the playing field but it limits the chances of my being burnt.
The Site Contributor restriction I have imposed on myself begs the question.
Has anyone been scammed by a 'Site Contributor'?

I realize everyone must start somewhere but it will no longer be at my expense
I did have a trusting attitude for years with zero problems but one time being scammed brought that to a halt.
Fool me once.........

Guys,

The boss has said it 1000x times ask for custom pictures and make a phone call have a conversation with the seller. Make your own determination on how to pay.

DO NOT USE PAYPAL OR VENMO OR ZELLE

USPS MO requires a ID card to cash. If you are scammed, you have a place to start and most likely video surveillance of the person committing the crime.

I would say that in the last 3-4 years I have never heard of anyone on this board getting scammed who actually made a phone call AND requested a custom photos.

If you are dealing with a new member with no trade history, start with the assumption that the person is trying to scam you. Force the seller to prove he has the product, get his true name and address, do a background search, ask for references. And do a voice phone call -- not text, not email, not PM.
