Engraving girard trimmer parts?

so I'm finding a problem with my Girard trimmer.

Each cartridge needs a case holder and cutting head. Once set up correctly I aint moving the cutting head because its a pita to get set right. Neither of these parts is engraved for what cartridge its for... so if you got 12-15 of em... it can get mixed up quick. I took a sharpie to them now, but that won't last... looking at getting a pen engraver to write the cartridge on each to keep stuff straight and organized...

Will the stainless cutter body take an engraving? I know the aluminum case holder will...

Wish these came marked somehow...

Maybe your gunsmith could engrave them for you. That would look better than an engraving pen if you care. How about a labelmaker label wrapped around it and maybe a wooden display to hold them like a die organizing stand ive seen people make? How about a set of screw organizing drawers marked with the case on a label?

I bag and tag like many of the others.

An electric engraver might do what you asked, but on cutting tools it will also take a beating and dull the tip pretty quick. I have engraved with a diamond stylus in an electric engraver up to about Rc62 on bearings, but I don't recommend it unless you are willing to dull the engraver.

I keep all my small tools organized in those clear organizing boxs you find in the fishing section at walmart...

What drives me even crazier than this is the cutting bits for the 21st century neck lathe... 20 degree, 30, 35? 40? None are marked..... that is a BIA... if they get mixed up im screwed...

Lay them against the neck of the case and see which one matches

The smaller food storage containers work very well. Sharpie pen on the sides and they stack on top of each other real nice!
Thanks Bill
