Empty chamber flag warning

I recently discovered a small problem with these flags.... in a fresh barrel the curved ones will deposit a shaving of plastic into the chamber from the sharp edges. The straight ones that I have tapered down feed easily into the chamber without this problem.... thought I’d share this with you before it costs you a match. So basically you have 2 options, cut them down short of the neck-free bore or use a loose fitting straight flag.

I just stick it vertical in the action so it sticks out the magwell/box mag. If you're using a blind mag/adl type action you could just get a stubby AR15 style flag that just has a rounded nub instead of the longer version. Either way it prevents the bolt from closing.

You must have some very lenient ROs. That won’t fly at any range I’ve ever shot at. The whole point is to get a flag in the chamber to ensure there is not a loaded round in it.

I’ve used the Boonie Packer chamber flags for years and have never found any pieces in the barrel. I have seen guys affix a chamber flag to a chamber brush or mop, this seems like it would avoid any problems.

Agreed - it may prevent the bolt from closing but it does not show that the chamber is empty....

The only problem with them was when a weekend warrier showed up and burned through several hundred rounds in a short time. When the flag was installed in the chamber, it melted. He didn't listen when he was cautioned that his barrel was getting way too hot.
