Eliminating the Rem 700 J-Lock

I am about to place an order with Brownells for a replacement firing pin assembly to eliminate the J-Lock on my .308 Rem 700. Will I need any special tools to install the new firing pin assembly? Is the factory original firing pin assembly the way to go?

Thanks

John

im building a 6.5-284 and i had that lock on mine. i just got the factory one and it will do just fine but ordering an aftermarket one by gre-tan isnt a bad choice either.u might wont to get the remington bolt disassembly tool by KLEINENDORST but u can do it with out it.stick a penny between the shroud and the striker assembly to relieve spring tension to twist it out.

If your doing that you may as well change the firing pin assembly while your at it.
A complete new assembly will make a world of difference.
The factory firing pin spring in a factory bolt is coiled up in there like a big ole snake in a small hole, and bangs all over the place when it's decompressed.
Gre-Tan will make you happy with there conversion replacement assembly, send your bolt out there and have them bush the bolt too while your at it.
