Eley & Lapua lot testing?

Is there a general sense of opinion as to how many rounds should be run thru a 22lr barrel before you consider shipping it off to Eley or Lapua for ammo lot testing?

Thanks

I cant tell you of anyone who has or does win big national matches...That has ever found capable ammo by tunnel testing from either eley or lapua! Buy your test lots and test them at home

I have use Killough Shooting in Texas (ELEY) a couple of times in the past and was very happy with their recommendations. I felt that the testing cost was much less then purchasing the ammo and considerably less time was spent by them testing 15 different lots. I don't know if was by chance or planned by both times the rifles came back with the tuners almost perfect.

To answer my own ? with first hand knowledge I just spoke with Luke at Lapua Ohio and he stated 4 to 500 rounds.
I than asked if had tested any single shots and as of yet he has not.
From the Lapua Test Center website:

Preparing your rifle for testing

  • Unless otherwise requested, your rifle will be removed from the stock and mounted on a machined bedding block to fit in the return to battery fixture.
  • If you prefer to have your rifle tested in the stock, please specify this in the notes section on your appointment form.
  • If your action is glued in to your stock (like many bench rest rifles), you must let us know before hand or you risk damage being done to the rifle.
  • We recommend you leave tuners, bloop tubes, and front sights mounted on firearms for the testing process.
  • If you have a new rifle/barrel, you must have 1,000 rounds through the barrel before sending it in for testing. A barrel that is not worn in will not give you accurate results.

Ok I am very confused as to why you started this thread. you ask about round count before sending in a rifle to test. but here you write you have used KSS to test a couple of times and you state the rifles came back with the tuners almost perfect?
so I am trying to understand the reasoning behind this thread, you seem to already know the answers on round count. and what is almost perfect? if it wasn't perfect wouldn't the test results be unacceptable?

Actually I know of one ARA (high up) HoF shooter that got some excellent ammo through Eley/KSS tunnel testing and he was very satisfied with the job they did for him. That said, if you are not prepared to drive over to TX, or send them your barreled action, you really have no choice but to do it at home. That same shooter very recently recommended shooting lots at home - which I plan on doing later this year.

I'm unaware of any resellers on the Lapua side that would support pulling 1-2 boxes from multiple lots (which is SOP thru KSS/Eley). If you are aware of one, please advise here or PM me. Thanks.

BTW, Lapua AZ advised (within the last week) that their data now supports 500 rounds being adequate before tunnel testing.

Swigert almost always has WAY more in stock than GS. Personal preference I guess but if I'm serious about testing there is no comparison.

Swigert just sent his updated list. Out of CX which is very strange but does have 15 lots of Midas and 9 lots of Xact in stock.

I went to Eley's Testing Center in Winters, TX last week. I flew into DFW, rented a car and drove out the day before. I stayed in Ballinger at the Executive Hotel. It was a clean and decent place. Nice people and would recommend it. Went to my appointment and it took 3 hours to test. The experience should have cost me more then just $45! I learned so much from my tester, Joseph, an absolute awesome guy!!! I bought my ammo and it just about beat me home. WOW!@@!
