Ejector marks big deal or not?

Ok working on my 6.5x47 testing berger 140s and rl17. My original load I worked up in March was a little hot for 95 deg weather and I blew a few primers so I backed off from 40.5 grains of rl17. I tried a bunch of different charges and accuracy wasn't any good until I got back up to 40.2 grains Rl17 cci 450, 140 vld with 20 thou jam velocity was 2925. Bolt lift is easy primers are okay but cases have ejector mark? This load shoots very well @ 400 yards and nothing else I have tried is even close should I just move on to different powder, or overlook the ejector mark.

Thanks Corey

If you are getting ejector marks you have got TOO HIGH pressure. By the time you blow a primer you are REALLY OVER PRESSURE. Unless you have a really long, around 30" barrel, over 2900 fps with 140's in a 6.5X47 you have got to be well over pressure. If you want that kind of velocity get a 6.5-284 or 264 Win mag.

you can plug that ejector hole if you want to run that much pressure ;). most of the br actions dont have them. try a different bullet also? less bearing surface?

It seems to me that hitting that particular velocity node with that weight bullet, from that case, will always be pushing things a bit too far pressure wise. I know that others have gotten good results with that bullet weight, but think it likely that they have done so at a lower velocity. Are you familiar with the idea of accuracy nodes? In any case, I think that to run where you want to with that weight bullet, a larger case would be better. Have you tried slightly lighter bullets, perhaps in the 120 something range?

I would concur the 140 gr. bullet is not optimal for this case. I have had my best luck with two different 6.5x47 Lapua's with the 130 Berger VLD's over Varget. One barrel is an 8 twist the other a 9 twist. Do an OCW test in .2 gr. increments. With the Bergers .010 into the lands. Varget gives me the most consistency and accuracy with this bullet. This is an easy round to load for.
Not saying the 140's can't work but I think most are finding the 130's or even 123's best in this cartridge.

Hope this helps.

The 140 Berger works well with this case at 1K range. Using 40 grs. of H4350 for 2855 velocity. CCI 450 primers, .015 jamb.
14th place at Williamsport World Open for lightgun group. (not me) Does fine in the wind. 30" barrel.
The guys at the W.V. 1K club do very well with this combo.
Also, the folks who think the small rifle primer is too small for this case are dead wrong. The missfires or hangfires you read about are due to a problem with the reloader or the gun, not the case and primer. Hundreds of rounds fired in the 6.5 x 47 and the 6 x 47L without a problem. (except for the guys loctiting primers in loose pockets!)
The 140 gr. Berger bullets do better for me at 1K than the 130's, even at lower speeds.
