ejection problems

A friend has a 300rum in a factory Remington LSS and it is having problems ejecting fired cases. Sometimes you have to cycle the bolt twice for the ejector to pull out the fired case. What options are there that we need to check. I have not seen the fired cases to tell if we are having pressure issues but he says there is no split necks or any thing unusual about the case.

It sounds like he is having an EXTRACTION issue. More than likely he is running hot loads or has a dirty/over oiled chamber. Also check that the extractor is clean and moves freely and is not impacted with dirt. The number one malfunction in fire arms is a four leter word, D I R T

Huntall,

I think it is to check first if a new case cycled ejects properly.

If yes, then compare the base diameter of this new case to a fired one in the rifle and causing the problem.

If the fired diameter is larger than the unfired=overressure.

If of the same diameter, or if the problem exists with both new and fired = either the extractor is weak or more likely the bolt head recess too small allowing the case to stick in the bolt.

Recently finished up on a .300 WSM 1000 yd bench gun for a fellow using a factory fresh 700 Remington. The extractor was a mess and wouldn't pull half of the brand new never fired Norma brass from the chamber. The extractor only stuck out about half of what it should have. One could replace the riveted extractor with a new one, or do what we did and replaced with a Tubbs 2000 Sako style extractor. Look at the bolt face and see how yours compares to others that work.

Remington 700 bolt..
can a rivetless extractor be used in place of the rivitted one
also...
how does this extractor get installed ... does the ejector have to be removed first ?

thanks
