EFFECTIVE RANGE FOR DEER -ELK

NOW before you look at the chart, i know you may get more or less velocity, use other bullets with different BC thus results, use a simular cartridge with simular velocity etc, also i know you may know and i do to, that the fp of energy i am using for minimum is not absolute and may in your opinion be too little or too much --BUT

just for fun i used Sierra infini and these to create an idea of just how a number of rounds preformed, and where their hypothetical limits were using my minimum FP of energy considering -----

Take some time and play with the numbers yourself - input your vel/bullet

Thanks Glenn,

i try to keep myself from over reaching with the different rifles that i have and choose those that meet these spec when i go for it.

John, i would not either, just looking at the fp of energy, Nosler does have a partition 100gr

i also have read in shooting mag, the use of a 243/6mm on them for the child/wife of the writers, huh.

the numbers work but the logic is not there.

A 100 gr bullet for Elk? at 200 yards?
That is not responsible IMO

I don't live in elk country, so my opinion is flawed. I will say any cartridge used on big game animals is all about shot placement. I can say from experience that whitetail deer will drop like a rock from 400 yards with a .243 and shots placed through the neck. I have also seen them shot in the rear with 300 win mags and get away. I have been told that you can't kill a whitetail with a .223. I've killed several with a .223 and most all have been one shot, clean kills. You can play with all the computer charts and theories, but I believe it is knowing your gun and bullet placement. Elk are a large animal and I may be all wet.

down south here our deer are a little smaller but my 223 does the trick...would agree with shot placement ...even on a groundhog...
