Effect of spring loaded ejector on Accuracy?

Thinking about the spring loaded ejector pushing on one side of the cartridge on a Rem 700 style bolt. Does this effect accuracy in any way vs one with say no ejector? Or does tight headspace negate this effect of side load??

???

I have heard both sides of the story.but for me I just like to cut off a few rings so that it want sling the brass way off.but I will say that my 300 ackley has no spring at all.it came that way when my friend gave it to me.and he used it at 1000 for match shooting.

so I guess I haven't answered your question.but thought it might help.but if no one else hits your post you can do a test to see.but make sure you have the plunger covered up.cause it will fly when you knock out the split pin that holds it in.

I took the ejector right out of my 722 bolt mainly because it was overpowering the dinky clip extractor in the bolt face and firing the .223 cases back into the chamber right after I lifted the bolt handle. Now I remove the fired case by hand from the bolt face. Also don`t have to chase brass.

Whenever I send a 700/722 action to my barrelsmith, I get him to install a Sako-type extractor which solves the problem.

As far as plunger ejectors in the bolt face affecting accuracy, Savage target rifles have this feature which doesn`t seem to affect their accuracy.

You will not find one in a BR gun if that tells you anything.

I have to agree with shooters that say the ejector spring tends to cant the cartridge cases in the chamber making the rounds not concentric with the bore of the barrel.

I have taken them out of my F-Class fle and have no trouble getting the fired cases out of the action.

When i make my owe actions i will leave that ejector hole compeltely out of the gun unless im doing a single shot right port hunting gun. Then i want it to get the brass out of my way so i can get another shot off right away. But for all intense purposes in a bench rest gun i wont ever put a ejector in it. It also allows me to load a little hotter and not have that annoying little round dimply on the back of my brass... ;)

On my latest build on a Savage I replaced the ejector with a rod of the same diameter sized to fit the length of the ejector hole and then pinned in place like the original. I don't like the case mouths being distorted when they scrape the side of the action under the tension of the ejector spring. I only use this rifle for informal target shooting so speed of extraction is not an issue and the short action cases can be readily removed since it's a long action. See photo.

Oh-Oh. You're in trouble now.
"You will not find one in a BR gun if that tells you anything."
You will find them on plenty of BR rifles. Personally I seldom use one but one of my Pandas has one. I will say this: they don't help matters when you are trying to figure out a seating depth but that's the only time they are a problem. A BR chamber and the brass are to such close tolerances that the ejector doesn't throw the case off line with the bore.

A whole bunch about nothing! If your custom dies size your competition brass properly, how can a weak spring cant your brass? It can't. Forget about this and concentrate on other problems that you are having like watching your windflags.

Some of it depends on whether or not you full length size your brass and if the chamber tends towards maximum SAAMI spec, that can let the round rattle around a bit. Tighter the fit of the loaded round to the chamber, the less the effect.
