Effect of Barrel length vs. velocity, 7mmRSAUM, 180gr berger VLD

How does barrel length affect velocity, for target match shooting, NOT hunting.
Load data for powders all use 26" barrels as the standard test[?], however I shoot
at match targets not deer or mooses with hunting rifles. What is the difference in velocity from 26" to 30" match barrels as compared to velocities on the load data charts???

the difference in velocity is all relative to the powder you use and seating depth--and the barrel it self --barrels are all different in the speed they will produce. But as a general statement I have found that 30-50 fps per inch is about the average that you will gain in a average barrel by making it longer. Now having said that I also have to say that I have seen barrels speedup that had a pressure issue by shorting them ! so go figure . just my 2 cents

I have seen 30-35fps per inch from 26 out too 30" I think it drops off too only 20fps or so per inch after 30 inches of barrel.

Thanks guys. I just needed to know the increase from the load data charts
for their velocity entries ie: 26" 2850 + 20 fps per inch; 2930 for 30" at a same load
of powder.
