Easy tool to pop receivers out of the bedding

Here's the home made receiver 'jack' that I made with a hacksaw and a drill in a bench vise a couple decades ago. At times I'm tempted to put it on the mill and make all the cuts nice and clean...but I like using it as it is. ;) I can't tell you how many receivers this has popped out of the bedding over the years. Works great for receivers that have an open bridge....700's, Model 70's, many of the after market ones, etc, etc.

Chunk of 1.5" black iron pipe about 2" long. I notched the ends with a file to fit a 700 cutout but if you make it 1.5" long you avoid that. Cut it lengthwise and drill a 3/8" hole in the top:

Cut a piece of 1/2" rod (an old bolt works good) 4 1/2" long and drill/tap it 3/8-16. Cut the head off a 3/8"-16 bolt or use a stud:

Wrap some tape around the rod and insert it in the receiver:

Screw in the stud:

Put the top piece on and tighten the nut. The rod comes up in the receiver and gets snug. As you tighten it a bit more, the receiver pops straight up and out of the bedding.

good idea Al-did it ever scar up the top of the stock? m

LRI sells a very nice one but it’s much more expensive than this option. Great idea sir! I’m gonna give making one a try.

That is high tech compared to what i use. I cobbled together a u shaped piece of wood and used 2 little C clamps to lift the action up. Is this patented, or can we copy it?

I wonder if you used a smaller diameter threaded rod like 1/4×28, could you use an action wrench as the shaft that goes into the receiver?
Would it compromise the strength of the action wrench?
One tool, dual use.
