All-
We have seen an uptick lately in the occurrence of duplicate/multiple accounts. Our system has multiple criteria for detecting users with multiple accounts and multiple options for taking action.
There are certain valid reasons why multiple accounts may exist and would be allowed - but there are quite a few more reasons (including gaming the new classifieds system) as to why they may exist, but will not be allowed.
The way this is going to work, is that when we receive a notification that a user has registered or is operating multiple accounts, we will investigate. In most cases, a notice will be sent that will give the user a few days to reply before the accounts are rolled into a single account automatically. They will be rolled into the most recent account. Meaning, if you are a user with a long history, you may get rolled into a new account, at which point, your existing user history may be subsumed into the new account.
If you receive a notice, it is in YOUR best interest to respond as soon as possible. We treat each instance on a case by case basis, so action will not be taken without someone looking at it and considering what might be happening. And action will only be taken without interaction with the user involved if no response is received within the few days.
Thanks!
