I use 6” plates. But when I shoot 45 and my brother shoots his 10mm I swap out the 9mm plates for heavier thicker plates. The 45 and 10mm level of cartridges tends to hamper the workings of my dueling tree. Spuare hits tend to have a lot of bounce back, on my tree anyway.

I anchor mine with rebars bent to a U pounded over the feet, the center post leaning back a bit.

I move back till I don’t get bounce back. I don’t know how good you shoot, get both sizes and try em.

I shoot the 22 size more than the 9/45. It’s really one of the funnest thing you can do with pistolas of any size.

You need 3/8 thick AR500 targets for 9mm or 45. The 1/4 thick AR500 targets for 22LR only.

My brother bought one several years ago, I have it here at my house. It has 2" and 6" plates. We use the small ones for .22 and the large ones for .45. Haven't shot anything else at them. Niether of us have a 9. I have bigger stuff but I don't shoot the plates w/them

Went to a 3-Gun shoot a few years back. One of the rifle targets was a 100 yard dueling tree with 6" plates. It was interesting to see how many competitors did not have a clue where there AR-15 hit at 100 yards!

Hang Fast Targets has a dueling tree that is rifle rated, fully armored and sits on an adjustable base. The base is adjustable for forward angle, uneven ground and hillsides.
We just used it this weekend for rifle duels 7.62 x 39 AK and SKS @ 20 yards. We used the 6" 3/8" AR500 plates and it worked great. No damage to the plates because the 7.62 x 39 round only clocks @ 2350 fps w/ 122 gr lead core bullet.

Later that day we changed the plates to 6" AR500 1/4" to shoot 9mm duels. Perfect weight for the 9mm.

After that we changed the plates to 3" AR500 1/4" to shoot .22 rimfire duels.

Next day we set it up @ 400 yards for 6.5 Creedmoor duels using the 6 inch AR500 3/8" plates (2) and 4 inch AR500 1/2" plates (2) . We went prone on the start signal to begin the duel.

Very impressive system and built to last. Easy leveling adjustment for a perfect setup on any terrain.
