Dud CCI BR primers

Has anyone else out their have any problems with dud CCI benchrest primers???
Out of 30 rounds today I had three duds.

I called them and spoke to a tech and he basic said that the problem was my fault.....
I've been loading match ammo quality ammo for the past 5 yeara and ammo in general for the last 17 years, and this was a first for me.

SilverEagle,
I've been shooting 450's and BR's for 10 yrs. and I can honestly say I have never had a problem. Storage is a big issue with primers, they like cool and dry. I did however have a Federal GM LR primer that never received the priming compound but did get the RED sealer to hold the anvil in place. I called Federal and they didn't believe me so I sent it to them and they sent me a box of 1000 free.

I have some that are about 25-30 years old. They were stored inside. I get 1 out of 300 that fail to go off, but I blame it on the age and possible bad storage. Here in Florida it gets hot and very humid.

Cannot remember last time I had a primer mis-fire, and I've been loading since 1960, approx. 4k rounds per year. Use them all: 205, 205M, CCI400, CCIBR4,CCI200,CCI500, Rem 7 1/2, Win. 'til they changed to the plain brass cups. All have been great!:)

One of our State Team shooters here in Ohio had the same problem with CCI Large Rifle BRs.
What is your lot #

I had the same problem a few years ago with a Farley action BR gun. It wasn't the primers, though. After disassembling the bolt & action later, I discovered that my gunsmith had accidentally put the trigger hanger in backward so that the sear/cocking piece was bumping over the rear edge of the hanger. When properly assembled there is a little cutout in the rear of the trigger hanger to give the sear/cocking piece clearance. I also found that there was some lubricant accumulated on the firing pin assembly that was creating additional drag. BTW, this incident did happen on a cold spring morning at Rachel's Glen. Cleaned the bolt & firing pin assembly thoroughly, then lubed with a little KEL 110 silicone & problem never re-occurred. Later, I also found that the firing pin spring pressure was only running 16-18#, so I replaced the spring with a new one bringing it up to 25#. Because the CCI BR primers are pretty hard, your rifle will need good firing pin energy for consistent ignition. Of course, you can have some bad primers, especially if they've been exposed to much humidity, but it sounded like you were getting too many misfires. I would recommend that you tear your rifle down & check/ clean everything before condemning the primers.

already done it Joe, it's a brand new Stiller SS Viper, all was good, at first I thought that it might have been some fouling on the FP hole or in the bolt body

Thought I had trouble with CCI primers in 358 Win deer rounds I’d made from 308 brass. Turned out the rounds had too much headspace. Do you have just made brass & any way to measure headspace?

the 5 rounds before and the 10 rounds after all fired, and the three duds headspace was in spec.
I also talked to Ken Keys at CCI and we got the problem all ironed out....
