Drywall tape for barrel removal?

When changing out barrels using my barrel vise, I've always dusted the barrel with a rosin bag, wrapped the barrel with a thin piece of leather and clamped it down in the vise. This has always worked out well leaving no marks on the barrel.

I've heard of some folks using drywall tape only and then clamping it down. I haven't tried this method and was wondering if anyone here had used the tape system.

Are you using the tape with the perforated holes or the tape that only has a few holes? How did it work out for you?

When using exact fit bushings for specific barrel contours I only use drywall tape with rosin. Paper towel and TP rolls don't fit that scenario very well IMO. They do seem to work fine with a Davidson/Sinclair/Viper type barrel vise.
Yup, but usually only use rosin if I think it’s going to be a tough one.
